12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a small light brown head. Aroma of artificial hazelnut, molasses, and caramel malt. Taste is extremely nutty, hints of sweet molasses, with a burnt coffee aftertaste.
2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Elwood (2552) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - JUN 7, 2013
Serving: 12 oz. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a dark brown color with a frothy, light tan head. Poor head retention. The nose is a mix of toasted hazelnuts, lightly roasted malt, and a bit of cocoa powder. The flavor has a harsh roasted note along with a strong nuttiness with slight burnt chocolate and watered down stale coffee notes. Thin on the palate with too much carbonation. Not very good in terms of taste or mouthfeel. Skip this one.
1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 otakuden (1704) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 26, 2013
Appearance:
Pours with a massive fizzy khaki head which rises fast and fades slow. Dark woods under a khaki head with mahogany highlights.
Nose:
Cocoa powder and cocoa dusted almonds and hazelnuts. Chocolate cake and pumpernickel breads. A bit peppery in the back. Brown paper bags underneath.
Palate:
Tart at first followed by dry, peppery, acrid and ashy notes. Paper and stale dusty nuts. Tannic acidity along the edges. Fizzy cola mouthfeel and taste.
Final Thoughts:
Maybe it was an old bottle; I couldn’t find a date to verify so take this review with a grain of skepticism. That aside, if it wasn’t an old bottle, avoid at all costs. Blech.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Brewdork (67) - Sanford, Florida, USA - MAY 26, 2013
Pours dark brown with short, creamy white head. Nice malty aroma with pronounced hazelnut notes. Decent malty-hazelnut flavor with a hint of smokiness that gives way to a bitter, unpleasant aftertaste.

Brown body, minimal beige head. Malty sweet, nutty in aroma and flavour. Not too bad, but a bit oversweetned.

Pours a dark but slightly translucent mahogany with a thin, tan head that quickly fades with moderate lacing. Subtle, complex aroma with hints of malt, chocolate and caramel. Silky mouthfeel with slight effervescence, appropriate to the style. Roasted, caramel flavor in line with the aroma. Nice representative of the style.

Lives up to its name very nutty flavor and finish. Light brown looks more like a brown ale than porter. Underwhlrming
