jjuf1853 (186), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA May 6, 2008 Bottle pours a dark reddish brown with a huge foamy tan head. Aroma instantly smells like nuts and spices followed by roasted malts. The smell reminds me of a baked Christmas dessert. Good flavor of roasted hazelnuts, spices, and figs, with a touch of vanilla. Nice lingering aftertaste.
dwaggs2 (50), Warrensburg, Missouri, USA Aug 3, 2008 Bottle. Pours brown. Decent head. Smells of roasted nuts and caramel. Flavor is weaker. Tastes like coffee and some chocolate. (Rating #1793) ChainGangGuy (1474), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jul 13, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, dark brown body with a small, fizzy, off-white head. Rather cola-like in appearance.
Smell: Chocolate, roasty maltiness with a mild scent of roasted nuts.
Taste: Sweet-tasting cola and cocoa blend with the underlying taste of roasted hazelnuts. Slight spicy hoppiness, very minor bitterness present. Slight astringency creeps into the drying finish upon warming.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation, though a bit fizzy.
Drinkability: A simple porter with a hazelnut twist. Fairly easily drinkable though. Lowe1983 (738), Fairborn, Ohio, USA Jul 11, 2008 Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma is of chocolate, roasted malts, slight coffee, caramel malts, and hazlenut. Flavor was thin with mostly chocolate and hazelnut. Not much of a lingering flavor. Not really that good. Guerde (457), Welcome, Minnesota, USA Jun 30, 2008 (bottle, thanks Lawstudent09!) Pours black with an off-white head. The aroma is pretty bizarre, I smelled a lot of caramel corn along with the hazelnut, but it wasn’t offensive. The taste really didn’t hold anything but some light chocolate flavor which yielded to an astringent finish of dark roasted malt. Mouthfeel was pretty thin.
