Keg at the Portland branch. Pours clear brown with a tight, creamy tan head. The nose has lightly burnt toast and dry cocoa. Light sweet flavor with moderate earthy bitterness, some more cocoa, burnt leaves, dry toasted brown bread. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Light earthy bitter finish, a bit more cocoa, toast. Totally fine.

ben4321 (3920) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - AUG 6, 2013
Location: Draft at Barnacle Billys in Ogunquit, 7/9/13

Aroma: The nose is malty and nutty, toast, and some caramel/toffee notes
Appearance: It pours a brown color with a light brown head and some average lace
Flavor: Tastes malty, similar to the nose component-wise, not overly sweet, not much bitterness
Palate: The body is light-medium and it is perfectly drinkable with a fine mouthfeel to it
Overall Impression: This is a fine brown, but it was nothing too memorable. If your looking for a quaffable brown you could certainly do far worse...

The brown is a pretty good beer with a dark brown color and nice aroma. It has a good level of roasted malt with a nice hop finish. I have had this on draft many times and it is consistently good. If you like a little more hop, I would try the red and if you like more malt, the stout would be for you. This one falls somewhere in between.

rondphoto (2024) - Lakeside Park, Kentucky, USA - JUL 2, 2013
Nearly opaque dark amber, long-lasting head cover, thick sheets of lace. Taste is semi-sweet malt with mild hops mixed in all the way through. At the finish, carbonation and a slightly warm sweetness appear, bringing things to a nice close. Simple, but good considering the abv.
