3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: FEB 9, 2013 When tried at a tasting between a sweeter Sebago Winter Warmer and their bitter IPA, the Boathouse Brown ale seemed like the perfect balance between flavor and smoothness. But having bought a 6 pack and trying it at home a few hours later, itís unremarkable. Beautiful brown color and a nice smell of caramel and nuts, but the taste and mouthfeel is very watery and smooth to the point of slickness. Little lingers in the mouth or in the mind. ------ RE-RATING: Upped a few points from 3.1 to 3.4. At slightly warmer temperature, this combined a nice spiciness with drinkability. Very sessionable. A perfectly enjoyable beer even if itís not going to bowl anyone over with one facet or another.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
This dark brown brew had a decent off-white-tan head and had a great aroma of a charcoal/smokiness to it, in which was balanced very well. There are some light sweet malts that also come out in the smell. The flavor shows this as well. The palate was about light and very drinkable. Overall, I liked it for the most part.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a chestnut color with a medium lt tan head...decent lacing. Aroma has light earthiness...very faint. Flavor is nutty and mildly chocolatey up front followed by earthy bitter hops. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish is earthy/bitter and dry. Not much like most browns iíve had.

On tap at Sebago, Portland ME in April 2010. Dark red in colour with tawny highlights. Some caramel in the aroma. Lots of dry malt character on the palate. Not at all sweet. Decent and drinkable. Went down fine.
