Deep brown ber with a thin white head. The nose is lightly sweet with a bit of light cocoa and a touch of soft caramel malt. The beer is fairly sweet, but still has a decent amount of malt complexity. The light caramel works well with the cocoa, and there is just enough lightly earthy hoppiness to balance it out. Pretty solid brown ale, really.

On tap at Sebago, Portland ME in April 2010. Dark red in colour with tawny highlights. Some caramel in the aroma. Lots of dry malt character on the palate. Not at all sweet. Decent and drinkable. Went down fine.

Any first impressions?
-An obscure brown gown supports a lasting ring of foam.
-Roasted malts and chestnuts are appropriate and enticing in both aroma and flavor.
-Roastiness continues into an appreciated back bitterness.
-This is a fairly straightforward, well-made, if not boring brown ale.
What if you dig deeper?
-Some citrusy hops admire the malt’s earthy nuttiness.
-Mouthfeel is lean, straddling the crunchy and the quaffable.
-A vague fruitiness finds safety within the roasty malts.
-Carbonation is rather active, but doesn’t bother the mouthful.
Bottle; no date.
