4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark brown with red tinge, small tan head. Aroma malty, caramel, dark dried fruits, a little citrus and pine hops. Full body. Some warming alcohol. Flavor is great balance of sweet and bitter. Spicy and piney hops. Caramel, dates, molasses, a little wood. Quite complex. Nice bitter hops but the sweeter flavors predominate. An ideal barleywine.

From the 650 ml. chilled bottle. 2013 batch. The pour is a nice, medium to dark amber with a tan head. Red hues. The aroma emits plenty of barley malts but there is actually a chocolate thing going. No kidding. I think they use chocolate malts to give it that extra twist. The body is medium to full. The taste is lovely with its sweet barley malts playing footsies with the chocolate malt and a modest, dry finish. Fresh, this is a fine take on a barleywine. I wonder how it will be a year from now?

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Rcvd in trade.
The appearance has a dark brown colored body with a thin half fingered white foamy head that dies leaving a thin film of a head. The lacing is thin and sticks to the sides of the glass at the top of the body and ends up just sliding with the sips.
The smell has a super strong bourbon up front with some plums and raisins to combine along with some caramels and toffee. There is that element of tobacco in the aroma.
The taste is super sweet and becomes slightly spicy and leads into a dry raisinous bourbon-like aftertaste with a sticky sweet bourbon finish.
On the palate, it sits about a medium to heavy, not sessionable - meant to sip, and has a carbonation that is fairly smooth and is good for the style and for me.
Overall, this is a good American Barleywine aged in bourbon barrels - well, its exactly what Sebago was looking to do, in my opinion, this is pretty good and worth a try, but will say not as hoppy as some American Barleywines Iíve had and yes I realize this could be for the fact that this is from 2013.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
22oz bottle (2013 vintage) pours dark almost opaque toasted ruby, with a finger of head. Nose is round dark fruits, plum, raisin, licorice, subtle bourbon. Taste is dark fruits, touch of smokiness, hints of vanilla, licorice, plum, leather. Finish is slighty sticky, sweet bourbon fruit notes, maple, oaky vanilla. Bourbon is well balanced. Well done.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Translucent dark ruby brown, average beige head. Strong alcohol aroma, along with brown sugar, figs, bourbon, vanilla, toasted malt, and wood. Less sweet in the taste, rounds out sharper and more bitter. Harsher barrel character than expected. Finishes with dried dark fruit astringency.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Glass is speckled with mildly sticky beads. Bourbony. Caramel color reflects the palate; sharp acidity and hops, boozy bite at the end. Certainly an American Barleywine.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours with an amber body that exhibits copper edges and a tiny white head. The big aroma offers up fresh oak and a modest degree of bourbon rolling into sharp booze notes. The taste is rich with a sweet mix of dark fruity esters, pine hop flavor, some grapefruit hop flavor and then moving into fairly smooth bourbon notes. Wow, this is rich, bold and smooth and with a terrific balance between beer and barrel notes. Interesting, lots of oak in the nose but not so much in the flavor. One of the better done barrel aged American style barleywines Iíve had.
