Revival of one of Antwerpens’ best-known historical styles, by Johan Van Dyck. Plans exist for an Antwerpen-based new brewery, for the moment brewed at Roman.

This beer is marketed pretty intensive in Belgium, and with the story behind it,I was expecting something decent. However, the dissapointment was shocking ( ok, maybe a little exagerated). I really did not like the combination of the doughy;very sweet taste together with the sourness. However,in due time I will try it again and update the review.

Much-debated restitution of a historical Antwerp beer, launched in 2012 by a former Moortgat employee. The original and therefore necessarily old-fashioned glass and label have been kept in honour - and considering my interest in Belgian beer history, this immediately elicits some sympathy from my part. The beer shows a sticky, off-white, stable head and cloudy ochre golden blond colour. Aroma reminiscent of a witbier, with obvious sourish wheat and lemon peel, something sweaty and grainy, as well as apple, biscuit, almond, honey. Mild fruity onset, apple and some citrus, medium carbo, wheaty beginning with freshly sourish accent, bready, sweetish background, powdery and somewhat starch-like mouthfeel, quite a lot of body, lemony freshness in the finish, thirst-quenching. A tasteful ’tarwedubbel’, I like it.

Florals with a little bit of an odd yeast aroma. Pours hazy yellowish. Bread yeast. Some banana. Kind of tastes like a Belgian wit. Tap at Sancho pistolas.

Bottle. Cloudy golden beer with a strong head. The aroma is lemony, bitter and yeasty. The flavour is lightly dry with citrus and yeastiness. Overall a nice fairly average tasting Belgian ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice fresh aroma. Lots of herbs, koriander I guess. Lemon like. Not much head. Lots of flavour herbs and malts. Nice one!

Somewhere between a golden and a Belgian ale, sweet fruit malts dominate the aroma and taste. Airy head dissipates to soapy film. Elements of honey , butter , coriander . Delicious and smooth.

Opaque yellow with fluffy white foam head. Weak aroma, little barley. Quite normal barley taste, not an outstanding beer. (Antwerpen 201409)

33cl. bottle. Really fruity in the aroma. Fruitiness in the taste as well, but not too sweet. A Hoegaarden mixed with blond beer? A very nice beer, really refreshing, leaves you wanting more.
