Roasted barley is the trademark of stout, a bittersweet separation from its cousin Porter. Our deep black stout is made with a grist containing 15% organic oatmeal to create its remarkable silky texture.

[4670-20120817] Tap. Roasted smoky grains and dry wood aroma. Murky, dark brown black body with a long-lasting creamy light tan head. Smoky roasted grains flavour has a long aftertaste of burnt cigarette ashes and smoky kindling. Full body. Overpowering! (7/3/6/3/13) 3.2

2012-08-17. Very dark brown black body with a modest tan head. Pretty sweet flavour, mild sweet malt core, dry roast slowly builds as you go. Sweet finish then dry dusty malt in thee aftertaste. Smooth average plus palate is softly carbonated and a touch light for a stout. Mild aroma of dusty malt and light roast, whispers of cocoa. Solid but fairly simple. On tap at Selins Grove, Pennsylvania

Tap at Selins Grove. Deeper clear cola with dense, coffee foam. Great retention. Thick, malty nose with maple and brown sugar. Taste is dry, sharply bitter with big brown sugar and thick rustic maltiness. Excellent roast character. Comes across as porter or schwarzbier. Very clean but thinner. Palate is weak. Malt driven. Lighter for style. Now that I see the abv, well, there you go.

At brewery. The aroma is roasty malt, chocolate, caramel. The appearance is deep brown, light tan head. The flavor is like the aroma. The finish is roast, light pine bitterness. Medium in body, thin for the style. Decent.

Draft. Pours deep, dark brown with average, creamy beige head; good retention and spare lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, espresso, light smoke, and dark fruit. Flavor heavy roasted malt, light earthy hops, and average dark fruit esters; dry, coffee finish. Medium body, low carbonation and low warmth.
