Nate (2291), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 15, 2007 On tap at the brewery. Dry bitter malty grains, roasted coffee bitterness and mild hops. Dry and smoky. Oily black with tan lacing head. Heavy body with medium carbonation. Starts rich and roasty. Coffee and chocolate and smoke. Light licorice. Big old dry bitter with some sour coffee tang. Dry hops bitter finish with tongue-coating bitter after. Quite a stout. Rich and flavorful.
Pwn3d (630), NYC, New York, USA Jun 1, 2008 On tap at the brewpub. Poured a near black body. Not really a fan of microbrew stouts, they never feel fully balanced. This didn’t fall into that category but close. Ok stout. wcampbell (445), Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, USA May 23, 2008 Not as good as their oatmeal stout, but decent. Lightly bitter roasted coffee flavor. Not too much complexity. Full bodied and full flavored. Low carbonation. Easily drinkable. jredmond (633), New Jersey, USA May 14, 2008 On draft @ Brewpub. Pours a brownish black body with some head. Aroma is roasted coffee and something else... cannot remember. Taste is very coffee-esque, but good. Not a big fans of stouts but I thought this was pretty good. Miver (470), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 31, 2008 On draft at the brewpub. Poured dark brownish black with a tan head and good lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, mild roasted coffee. Taste is of bitter baking chocolate, mild roasted coffee. Olivey bitter, slightly dry finish. Not bad. kmweaver (2273), Nicaragua Mar 28, 2008 Growler, courtesy of LordMaynard. Thanks, Russ!! Pours a dark, murky chocolate-brown color; khaki head with large-bubbled retention and lacing. Nougat, chocolate, and some wet malts in the aroma; touch of cocoa; a bit messy. Medium mouthfeel: slightly watery at the edges, with plenty of freeze-dried coffee, caramel, and basic bitter chocolate, again, messy and a touch chalky; not a lot of complexity to either the coffee or the chocolate notes. Medium, dry finish: bitter chocolate, nougat, and mineral bitterness.
