Dickinsonbeer (2565), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Mar 1, 2005 By far the best Weizenbock I have ever had. Even my mom (who only drinks Miller Lite) loved this one. Perhaps this is a little on the light side for an eisbock, but the 7.2% is estimated so it is possible it is higher, although it really didnt taste any stronger at all. On Tap at the pub. Pours hazy deep golden/copper somewhere between that of a weizen and a dunkelweizen. Moderate to small head but lasts and leaves good lace. Aroma is incredible with lots of fruity esters and phenolics yet isnt harsh at all. Flavor is complex with lots of wheat and malt flavors dominating but lots of those yeasty flavors as well. Exceptionally smooth for a weizenbock. Aventinus and Moonglow seem very harsh and unbalanced compared to this one.
Probiere (992), Iowa, USA Jun 16, 2005 A thick full body topped with a creamy head of fine whipped bubbles. Dark brown-purple, vscous body. Nose of bubblegum, spices, syrup, phenols, and alcohol. Taste is a little sharp with the alcohol, but the wheat is ever so smooth and the clovey-bubblegum flavors just explode in your mouth. Finish is long, acidic, and sticky. A little too unabashedly sweet and a little too alcoholic tasting, but a very nice example of an eisbock. wunderbier (1261), Finland Apr 18, 2005 Amber-orange-red (depending on how the light strikes it!) hue with a creamy, white head. Banana, clove, wheat, and spicy hops. Also...the bubblegum aroma...it smells like, get this, real bubblegum! Not the crappy kind being passed of now, but the real stuff. Anyway. Moderately sweet, moderately acidic flavor becomes a lightly sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter finish. Medium-full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. The bottom line is: the phenols in the finish are a bit sharp...but it’s got a great taste and wonderful mouthfeel. Could have used a little more sweetness though.
