Commercial Description:
Porter was a favorite of George Washington whose white horse was said to have spent its last days grazing behind Governor Snyder's mansion. In George's day, ingredients such as molasses were often employed to make ale. We use five different malts and a touch of molasses for this ale's smooth and complex taste.

Poured a dark brown body with a little amber hue. Small off-white lace. Roasted malt aroma with a little carmel and brown sugar present. Flavor starts of with a nice chocolate roast that is quickly taken over by a strong cola taste. Some earthy/piney hops present in the finish.

Draft, Selin’s Grove Brewing Co. Pours a dark, reddish-brown color; thin, off-white head. Some milk chocolate and light roastiness in the aroma. Medium mouthfeel: chewy milk chocolate and toasted grains; well-integrated; good density and solid chocolate core. A bit less giving than the oatmeal stout. Medium, chocolate and toasted malts in the finish.

A great porter. The taste went very well with a meal. Strong roasted malt flavor that finishes smooth and slightly sweet. Medium thickness, but full flavored.

On draft at brewpub a couple of times. Poured dark brown, medium carbonation. Solid hints of chocolate, coffee and roasted malts. A very solid Porter with a nice smooth, creamy taste. Good body.

Draft at the brewery, August 2007
Dark brown colored body with some amber-brown hues at the bottom of the glass. Light-to-moderate roast presence in nose and flavor, with some molasses and maple scents, sweet smelling overall. Toasted grains tasted, along with some sharp hoppy notes, and some dry wood flavors in the finish, but not as much roast as in the nose. Has the faintest bit of vanilla as well. A nice porter but nothing exceptional, and in fact there’s some lactic acidity that lingers in the finish that I don’t like so much.

Decent conventional porter on tap at the brewpub. Roast and molasses aroma. Creamy with lots of lace on dark brown, abundant head. Molasses is the taste, medium mouthfeel.
