Commercial Description:
Porter was a favorite of George Washington whose white horse was said to have spent its last days grazing behind Governor Snyder's mansion. In George's day, ingredients such as molasses were often employed to make ale. We use five different malts and a touch of molasses for this ale's smooth and complex taste.

On tap at the brewery. Dusty earthy malt, dry roasted grains and bitter coffee grounds. Light hoppiness with licorice and tobacco, raisin. Dark brown reddish clear with off-white lacing head. Medium heavy body with light carbonation. Starts sweet with malty grains, raisins, coffee and licorice. Bitter chocolate. Mild bitterness and coffee grounds. Toasted or slightly burnt grains. Neutral fruit finish. Tongue-coating sweetness with light coffee bitter after.

From growler. Deep garnet red with an off white head. Roasty coffee with cream nose - really! Chocolatey flavor, malty, very light hop. Very good!

Tasting at Immy’s. From Growler. Brown pour with coffee head. Nose is a little sour, with a sweet roasted malt. Flavor follows, sweet, roasty and a touch of bitter at the end.

Growler at Immy’s Tasting on 7-22-06. This was unopened at RBSG so it was brought home and tossed in the fridge. Pretty sure kramer17801 bought this - thanks Jason! This held up well, as Kinz noted. Dark brown. Small tan head. Nose is roasty, chocolaty, and milk-laden coffee. Taste is chocolaty, roasted malts, grainy in spots, and light hops. Body is creamy with a mild carbonation feel. Finishes with more coffee and roasted malts but has a bit more bitterness during the finish.

From Immy’s Tasting. Growler from RBSG, stunned at how nicely this held up, no degredation whatsoever. Ultra dark brown, good head. Light chocolate aroma. Flavor was the same. Quite balanced overall. Not complex, but definitely good.
