Dark brown body with a low tan head that recedes to ring. Chocolate subtone to the intensely roasty flavour with some light fruitiness emerging after the strong bitter finish in the aftertaste. Medium light body is quite dry with lively carbonation that is softly engaging on the tongue. Sampled on the PA trip 2005. kramer (2465), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA

Roasted malt aroma, chocolate, coffee, and black strap molasses. Nice dry roasted malt flavor with a good hop background. Molasses really comes thru in the finish with espresso and bitter chocolate. Smooth and soft on the palate, light to medium body. An awesome beer, one of my favorite Porters (I have this often). Very good session beer, though a little high at 5.5% for long session drinking. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 11, 2005 Very dark, almost black, it pours from a growler with a limited head. Good supporting vegetal hops stage behind straightforwardly chocolatey malts, airy and fruity if not showing tons of depth besides cigary roastiness. Drinkability beyod criticism, light-medium bodied, gentle carbonation. Seemed a bit middle of the road to me, but I feel the growler might not render it full justice and I’m certainly looking forward to visiting the pub in upcoming years. egajdzis (3621), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA
