0.33 l bottle as ’Septem Saturday’s Porter’ from ’De Bierkoning’, bottled in July 2015. Clear, very dark red with a huge, creamy, slowly diminishing, tan head. Sweetish, fruity-malty aroma of raisins, blackberries, some dark chocolate and nuts. Sweetish, fruity-roasty taste of raisins, blackberries, dark chocolate and coffee, followed by a medium long, roasty and slightly bitter finish with notes of coffee. Thin to medium body, effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. A beauty in the glass, an appealing aroma but a disappointing taste and a bit thin as well. Still nice though!

Bottle at home, Euro Local Swap from Rouhlas, cheers Nikos
as saturday porter
pours ruby brown with fluffy beige head, rich and fruity, fairly sweet with light butterscotch note which works rather well as a dessert beer.

Bottle on sale from Bert’s Bierhuis. The beer has a nearly black color and pours a nice cream colored head, with nice carbonation. The aroma is a palate of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and sweetness of caramel and some hints of hops in the background. The taste is medium bodied, dry and light bitter with the notes from the aroma. The carbonation makes this beer very refreshing and easy drinkable. The finish is dry and light bitter and is long noticable.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a deep-deep brown, nearly black color with a two finger head of cream colored foam. The thick head has a great level of retention, very slowly fading over time to leave a great level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the brew is rather big of a roasted malt and chocolate smell with a strong showing of sweeter aromas as well. The sweet are a nice blend of caramel and vanilla with a hint of molasses in there as well. Some lighter nutty smells and brown bread are there with the rest, giving the brew a rather rich, dark, sweet, and raosty smell overall. Taste – The taste begins with a slightly toasted malt flavor mixed with a little bit of a caramel and vanilla sweetness. The taste is much less then what was anticipated from the nose, with the flavors being much lighter than the smell. The darker flavors do pick up a bit as the taste advances with some chocolate and more roast coming to the tongue, but still, overall, the roast and dark is rather light for a porter. Some nut and even more caramel and vanilla sweetness come at the end, leaving one with a rather sweet brown ale flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is rather thin and watery with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. The carbonation is good for amplifying the lighter dark flavors of the brew and more the porter style, but a heavier and chewier body would have helped even more giving the brew a rather robust feel. Overall – The aroma and look were quite fantastic, but unfortunately it was too light in roasty and dark flavors with too thin a body for me to really consider a porter. If it were marketed as a brown ale, then it would be OK, but when expecting a porter, I am expecting something with more umph!
