330ml bottle from Bierkompass

Best before 11/2014 - Pours pitch black with a large foamy head. Aroma of roasty malts, dark chocolate, syrup, grassy hops and citrus. Taste is roasty, chocolatey and hoppy with some grassy bitterness, coffee and licorice. Finish is hoppy, roasty and grassy with some lingering bitterness and licorice. Feels more like a hoppy stout than a black IPA.

33 cl bottle @ home, BBE 11/2014
Aroma has licorice, vichy-like elements, some ash and hints of hops. Feels a bit musty. Flavour has licorice, soy sauce, some ash and gooseberry bush. Finishes with some lingering hops and grapefruit. A bit too ashy and messy.

Bottle. Pours a black beer with a big beige head on top. Aroma is roasted, malty and has this dark, citric overall aroma to it as well. Flavor is light sweet, nice balance with some licorice to balance out the citric influences. Quite a dry finish, medium carbonation, very nice beer!

Espresso, milder Nachhall. 12/10/10/11/7/11

330ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with huge, thick, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, beige to tan head. Citrusy hoppy aroma has gentle notes of grapefruit, orange, mandarine, lemon, subtle dark malty notes of coffee and dark chocolate, a cautious herbal touch, hints of green onion. Taste is slightly piney, biting bitter hoppy, citrusy, lots of grapefruit, subtle dark malty sweetness, an earthy coffee touch, dark chocolate, hints of green onion; bitter and minimally chalky finish. Very balanced, gentle aroma full of subtleties, slightly rougher taste, could bear a stronger, more intense malt basis.

cervmagpt (256) - PORTUGAL - JUL 24, 2014
Review following the BJCP2014 guidelines (draft - style 21B). Bottle 33 cl - Batch unknown. AROMA: nice citric, tropical, pine and resinous aroma with small roasted notes in the background. APPEARANCE: dark Brown and opaque. huge tanned head with good retention. TASTE: initial fruity flavour that is smashed with high roasted and coffee flavours (almost burnt). High bitterness amplified by the unbalanced roastiness, that lingers way beyond the aftertaste. dry finish. PALATE: médium-low body with some roasted derived astringency. high carbonation. alcohol warmth not sensed. OVERALL: an unbalanced black IPA, with too much roasted flavours that masks the hops. not bad, nonetheless.
