Bottle. Like a lager, but lacked the hop bite of german pils. This was smoother with notes of honey. Nothing bad at all!

Test vom 12.10.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche

The 50cl bottle pours out crystal clear gold with a short lived slightly loose head of foam. The aroma offers up some mild floral to spicy hops and a bit of malt sweetness. The taste delivers a pleasing floral to spicy hoppiness to slightly lime hop bitterness mixed with just a touch of hop flavor as sweet malts fill in the gaps to midway. Into the finish it picks up a bit of breadiness and some sweet estery lagery fruitiness. This is a bit on the sweet side but pretty good compared to attempts at this style I’ve had in the States.

Bottle (50 cl) from bierzewrg.de. Clear deep golden, medium white head. Grainy and bready malt aroma, some faint fruity notes, some herbal hops. Light to medium bodied, medium carbonation. Dry with low to medium bitterness.

Bottle shared with daje & ed. Part of the big Kölsch session at Hallangen 2013
Golden, white head. Smells of hay, malts, dust and hints of yeast. Light sweet, crisp, dry for an ale. Medium bitter, spicy, hoppy with a touch of grass. A superb kölsch

(Sester Kölsch) Bottle 500 ml at home, served into a kolsch glass, ABV 4.8% Deep golden yellow colour on the body, with good activity in it. Almost two fingers of white, thick head, which in a kolsch glass is like half full with foam. Kidding. Very good retention, heavy lacing on the glass. Aroma is a bit fruity, apple like notes, then the usual grass and straw. Tastes fresh, light grass, a bit malty on the finish, light apple juice. Medium thin body, good carbonation. Much better than I expected.

i quite liked it, dry slightly hoppyness, a bit resiny, well balanced and dry, but lacks a bit of complexity and variance in flavour.

Second Kolsch of the evening: half litre bottle best before Oct 2012, poured into my ’Gaffel Kolsch’ glass three times. Looks fine: golden, clean and clear, the head tried to stay unlike most Kolsch, who’s toppings leave almost straight away. Yeasty and hoppy in the aroma: makes a change to smell anything from a Kolsch. Nice bitter hop kick to this compared to the usual slightly sweeter Kolsch brews. Prefered this to the highly rated Reissdorf, which was the beer before this. I know this is a cheap supermarket beer but I liked it.

Classic Kölsch with yellowish white, crackling, irregular but stable head and off-yellow blonde colour with pinkish hue, clear. Weak pale malts in the nose, hay, peppery hops, grains, young cheese, vanilla; dryish, cheesy, grainy taste, minerals, faint sourishness perhaps coming from the carbonation, light maltiness, subtle ’stings’ of hop bitter in the finish. Interesting Kölsch with a distinct personality compared with its peers.
