jjpm74 (3110), Stratford, CT 06614, Connecticut, USA Feb 20, 2008 Pours dark brown with a tan head. Smells of chocolate and roasted malt. Tastes of molasses, lots of roast and some decent bitterness. Finishes with some nice spice. JoeMcPhee (3810), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Feb 18, 2008 Tap at the brewpub. Dark brown-black beer with a creamy dark brown head. Aroma is very chocolatey and roasty. Sweet dark maltiness as well. The falvour is quite roasty and bitter with a heavy dark chocolate flavour on the back. A soft coffeeish character as well. Great soft texture with a lingering chocolatey sweetness. Lovely stout. VTHopHead (700), Barre, Vermont, USA Nov 5, 2006 Sampler at the brewpub - Poured a very dark black/brown in color with a small light tan head. Aroma was of roasted malts with a hint of chocolate. Flavor was a bit disappointing. Roasted malts for sure, but little else. It was also a bit watery. DYCSoccer17 (2040), Davis, California, USA Jun 21, 2006 12 ounce sample at the brewpub. Roasty, slightly sweet chocolate aroma with some black malts present in the nose as well. I also detect some cereal-like grains as well. Almost opaque, blackish color with a small light tannish head and small lacing. Roasted, flavorful dark dark chocolate flavors to start with kisses of anise. Fairly bitter and dry grapefruity PNW hoppiness to finish. This is an oily body, chewy, and a very assertive beer. I would have preferred different hops. Miguel (1181), Sorel-Tracy, Quebec, Canada May 9, 2005 Pas de mousse. Arômes et saveurs de café, de porto. Houblon de soutien. Légère, mais honnête.
