Growler from daily growler. Great hearty oat and earthy nose and mild head. Smooth and medium body. Great balance and not too sweet. Overall a pretty good oat brown ale

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft to taster at Seventh Son. Pours a deep mahogany color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have lightly roasted malts, some cocoa, caramel, some earthy notes, a splash of dark fruits, but like many browns this just doesn’t do much for me.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Woodlands Tavern, Columbus, Ohio, tasted on March 11, 2015. Dark cola hue, moderate sweet malty nose, sweet maltiness in the flavor but too much astringency, not well balanced. This one’s recipe needs some tweaking.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap, poured into a sampler glass. Notes of oats, cereal, chocolate cookies, and grains come through in that order. The dark caramel, near opaque colored beer has a creamy brown head that retains a thick ring and a soapy, full but uneven surface and leaves behind an ample, uneven lace. The taste is a medium sweet and bitter. The beer’s texture is thin with a fluffy carbonation and a medium-light sessionable body containing notes of roasted malts, milk chocolate, oatmeal, and some caramel/coffee. It’s clean with mineral water / watered-down coffee finish and a clean, light oatmeal and coffee aftertaste.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft. Poured a clear dark brown color with an average creamy tan head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted malt, nuts and chocolate aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Solid balanced toasted sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Good complex brew.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On draft at the taproom. Deep brown - red pour. Roasted aroma with brown sugar. Tastes the same with nuts, malty, coffee. Decent overall though browns aren’t my fav.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Taster on tap during Ohio Brew Week. Labeled "Store Front", I assumed this was a typo. ABV listed as 5.25%. Mostly clear, very dark red color. In this dimly lit bar, looks kinda brown. Thin off-white head. Leaves good, thicker rows of lace. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of chewy, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Big nutty flavor. Some chocolate, little dark fruit. Moderate bitter taste, moderate sweet. Solid, assertive kind of earthy hoppy brown ale.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Mahogany color with a wisp of brown foam on the surface. Sweet brown sugar and roasted grain nose. Sweet brown with some molasses, brown sugar, and enough toasted grains to not be too sweet. Some dark fruit notes. Some smoke comes out as it warms. It stands up well against my food truck rueben.

On tap at brewpub
The low key garage that houses Seventh Son is home of a brewery that should be around for a while to come. Much like the new players in Cleveland and Cincinnati are shaking up the scene I am glad to see the same happening in the middle of the state. Based on this sample and others it won’t be long before they are a household name in central Ohio and beyond.
Aroma / Appearance - A chestnut brown base rests idly in the glass along with a creamy vanilla head. Acorns and chestnuts give it a definitive nutty feel along with light grade chocolate.
Flavor / Palate - Almonds, roses, and peanut butter mix the hop profile and malt base well. Like drinking short sips of Nutella it has a sweet edge that is not overdone. Sessionable and easy drinking this is an example of doing a beer by the book without having it feel bland and dull.
