reakt (855), Greater London, England Oct 25, 2007 Cask @ St. Albans BF. Opaque pale gold. Sweet apple and pear nose with obvious whiskey notes. Has an earthy peatyness, from the barrel I assume, but the whiskey gives it a sort of TCP taste. Has a slight hint of cinnamon also. Starts off quite plain but evolves into something quite complex with a long dry finish and a warming whiskey burn on the way down. Not typically a fan of barrel aged perrys, as they tend to be quite astringent, but this one wasn’t all that bad. Cloudy pale yellow, just really cant get into the looks of perry. Awesome mellow pear aroma with stunning peaty whiskey notes. Very slightly sweet yet dry and sour and gloriously tart. Excellent. Really mellow pear flavour doesn’t seem like much at first but as soon as you swallow you get indescibable pear drop sweets balanced by such beautiful peaty whiskey. Dry as a bone. Easily the best finish of any cider or perry I have experienced. And trust me it IS an experience. Like your whole life flashing before your eyes in seconds. A barrage of wood, earth, peat, tart pear and tannin. Ok, that’s not my life, but it’s all good stuff! Exciting and glorious.
