Shaftebury Brewing Company--Summer Solstice Ale--2000 12 oz. Bottle. 4.50% ABV. (2.75 / 5.0) Pilsner Ale. Very clear light golden color. Light lager like Saaz hop front. Very similar to domestic lager in taste with light fruit ale hints. Light bodied, tasty, nice hops. Clean light hop balanced finish. Sampled 7/5/2000.

I don’t ordinarily like Shaftebury, but this was okay. Pale golden colour with a faint chill-hazed appearance and a disappearing white head. Pale malty aroma, light floral hoppiness and some bready yeastiness. Flavour is actually pretty good, decent amount of malt and a clean finish. A fairly quaffable summer beer.

Not bad...poured a golden yellow, but the head went south quickly. I agree with Tipsy McStager on this one...very weak palate. Mind you, it IS wet, it IS beer, and it ISN'T American!

stinky, foul aroma. Pours a golden yellow, carbonation high, head mid range. This kind of tastes like a fruit beer, except all the fruit is rotten. Very weak palate and unusual aftertaste. Shaftebury is a brewery you want to avoid except for their cream ale.

1.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20
Golden amber body with a small off white head. Aroma was lightly malty and little else. Taste was sweet but thin. Finish was spicy and not really enjoyable.

Sparkling golden amber. Fast fading off white head. Nutty nose with light malt taste, but cigar butt off taste

Pleasant aroma as I poured the glass. The aroma died out quickly. Light but lasting head of white bubbles. For a light summer ale it has an intriguing spice flavour that I cannot place. ALmost a ginger taste that lingers. This weird taste takes it out of the summer guzzler category but not sure where it takes it to. As it warms the aftertaste is almost soapy. Very interesting and worth a sample but can’t say I see a fit as a regular beer. SECOND BEER AND I CANT GET PAST THE SPICE AFTERTASTE!
