COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Regular
Also sold as Betjeman Ale in the Betjeman Arms, St Pancras.
With the exhaustion of the mining industry Cornwall’s fishing fleet now keeps this bold tradition of commercial seafaring alive albeit bound by fishing quota red tape. Cornish Coaster pays tribute to all those down the centuries who have bravely plied their trade around Cornwall’s rugged coastline.

Cask at the Hansom Cab - London. Pours clear gold with a supertight eggshell cream head. Hints of dry lemon on the nose, some crispy hay and leaves. Light sweet flavor, simple bready sugars, a little hay. Light bodied with fine and very creamy carbonation. Fair condition. Mild bitterness to finish with some white bread, hay, faint crunchy leaves. Tasty, basic.

Likeable beer with a restrained citrus aroma and quite complex flavour profile for a golden ale with a slight hint of honey being perhaps the most prominent. Probably a nice accompaniment to a warm summer’s day but it was cold and raining when I tried it...

Old rating from 2010. Half in the Anchor Bleu. Colour is clear amber/golden, fresh white head. Nose is grainy, honey, biscuity and floral. Taste is sweet malty, honey, biscuit and floral hops. When it’s fresh this is a very nice beer.

Handpull at The Bell (Cannon Street). Clear slightly amber gold with a small frothy-creamy off-white lasting head. Simple aroma -sweet heather and honey, dried grass. Taste follows, but thin, grassier and sweeter, a bit generic. Average body, airy, chewy with a sweet quick finish. Not horrible, just boring.

Cask at the Half Moon, Windlesham - 09/08/12. Light orange with a small white head. Light citrusy hop on the nose and a pinch of malt. Similar taste to nose with a little biscuit. Thin in body bitter dry mouth feel on the finish. Drinkable, I prefer it to Doom Bar, but nothing exciting.

Also sold as "Sharp’s Anglers Tackle" at The Anglers, Walton-on-Thames. __ Copper colour. Aroma has some nice honey notes and a hint of hop. Flavour has a pleasant sweetness but remains quite fresh. Nice hop balance.

A bit like a golden ale, initial taste was quite sharp with some citrus following up, not bad

Cask at the Price Albert, celebrating a 6-2 victory over the Bank of Montreal. An orangey golden session beer, easy drinking with some slightly resin hop. Pleasant enough, although I find most Cornish beer a bit bland.

First tasted this in the Salt Cot, Saltcoats (JDW) in June 2007. Cask, handpump dispense. Crystal clear straw in colour with a thin white head. Dry hoppy notes in the brief aroma. Thin resiny mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a fruity flavour of gooseberry and lime. Metallic tang to the aftertaste with hard water salts and hop resins combine to give a very tart bitter aftertaste. Finish is dry with bitter floral notes. A poor session bitter.
