A decent British real ale. Taste dominated by the malts, leaves a bready taste. Tried this with Paul on the boat on the Thames (11-9-11)

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bright, tawny copper with just a few bubbles adhered to the side of the glass, not much life otherwise. A thin, depleting head of white atop manages to just hold on for the length. Strong, sweet caramel nose with hints of praline, candied nuts, marzipan, burnt green timber and dust. Sweet in the mouth too, almost teeth rattling. The body light, but cloying. So different from casked Doom bar, it’s uncanny. Weedy, swampy bitterness, mild earthy back end, drops off short with just a sugary caramel linger. Quite woody with a truckload of unsalted nuts showing, but all fails to balance the caramel, toffee tones. Too sweet for my palate. (50cL, no date stamp, Thirsty Camel, Butler)

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
500ml bottle. Poured a clear copper-amber colour with a lasting, lacing white head. Slightly biscuity and toasty but otherwise dominated by a sweet pasteurised maltiness. Some grain at the back. Light to medium body, short bitterness, soft to medium carbonation. A bit thin, bland and non-eventful.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Despite a lack of aroma this was a nice beer, caramel, sweet malts with a spicy hoppiness.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
500ml clear bottle from Waitrose. Clear, bubbly, fairly deep amber with an average quick-diminishing frothy-fizzy beige head. Grainy/grassy aroma, a little sour and skunky. Fairly "meh" grain and stale grass taste, enlivened a bit by an odd tart grapeskin character that actually improves it quite a bit - light body, solid carbonation, with a quick, somewhat dry grain/grassy-bitter finish. A bit thin,.

Incredibly drinkable and balanced. Not exceptional in any respect but the hop character is nice
