Named after one of the famous ’front four’ trails on Mt. Mansfield, this I.P.A. is brewed in the English tradition of pale ales shipped from Britain, around Africa, to India. Those ales contained extra hops and a higher alcohol percentage, which both served as natural preservatives. This ale holds true to those original, defining characteristics. Formerly "National IPA".

Heavily filtered dark yellow. Nose is weak. Some pine and juicy fruit. Quite a bit of flavor here. Bitterness is manageable and sweet notes throughout

Found on the orphaned singles shelf at the corner bodega. Pours a rich orange with a full head. Restrained nose of citric hops, mild grass. Taste adds a little vegetal pepperiness to the mix. Dry hopping plays nicely; pleasantly bitter throughout. Not complex, but well executed. Glad to see this reaching a wider audience.

Bottle at inlaws. Pours orange with one finger head. Nose is citrusy hops. Tastes of tropical fruits, grapefruit, malt, and some brown sugar. Medium bodied and pretty tasty.

Super rich copper and toffee coloured body with a rich, two centimetre tall perfectly tan head - very nice looking. Aroma of rich caramel, toffee, raisins, nuts, earth, malt and a good dose of german or english hops - doesn’t smell like much american in here. Medium-bodied; Grassy and herbal hop notes up front that are decidedly more american with a good malt backbone and a pleasant but mild sweetness that persists. Aftertaste shows a good balance of malt and hops with perhaps a bit too much malt, toffee and bitterness lingering, but not a bad offering. Overall, a decent IPA that bleeds more toward malt than hops, but a nicely flavoured beer at least. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington (Foggy Bottom), DC on 13-January-2014 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 05-June-2014.

Pours copper with a small to medium white head. Aroma is citrus, floral and some caramel. More hops then malt. Taste is bittersweet with some acidic tartness on first sip. Medium bodied, refreshing and a good all around IPA.

Good hop notes, although not overly citrusy. A bit of a malty, dry ending, but not very bitter. Well balanced. 6% ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

At first wasn’t to thrilled or shocked. As it got warmer it got more pleasant. Realized it was a English style IPA and gained much more appreciation. It is pretty good. Well balanced. Low rating due to original reaction. Should b a 3- 3.25 star beer

12 oz bottle from Georgio’s Liquors, Billerica, MA. An amber pour with a creamy head; caramel aroma; in the mouth the hops are to the fore, giving lots of green wood and bitter grapefruit over a rich caramel malt body; there’s lingering grapefruit on the finish. Good stuff.

2oz sample at International Great Beer Expo (Meadowlands). Pours a hazy orange color with a small head of foam. Aroma of light citrus, and caramel malt. Taste of old citrus fruit, sour lemon, and sweet caramel malt.
