Nice dark brown color - thin head (may have flattened a bit since it was from a growler that was a few days old.) Aroma is sweet, slightly fruity with notes of roasted malt, caramel and a hint of noble hops. Flavor is fairly roasty and dry, the rye does come through, especially as it warms up as other reviews have stated. Finish is slightly bitter and very dry.

Thanks to weeare138 for sharing this on tap at his place. Pours a deep brown with some ruby when held to the light. Off white creamy head that left some lacing and sustained. Aroma was very fruity up front with some citrus, roast and rye. Mouthfeel was dry and bitter with some caramel, roast, dark fruits, chocolate, lots of rye, great hop bitterness.

Thanks to Mike for sharing yet another great beer from the shed. Supposed to be a Rye IPA. Pours a dark cloudy brown with a dark woodiness and a nice lasting sticky head. Aroma is hoppy upfront with lots of pine, some solvent and citrus- kinda columbusy hop-like. Rye and dry spice as it warms. Citrusy and resiny flavor with lots of nice bready rye malts and moderate caramel sweetness- hoppy moderate bitter finish. Overall pretty clean and easy to drink. Similar to hop rod, but a bit cleaner, hoppier, and darker in color.

Much thanks to grassrootsvt for this... Appears a murky, dense haze of dark mahogany with with caramel red edges. A small, tan, velvet cap hangs around for the duration of the drink. Scattered spots of lace are left around the glass like randomly painted zebra stripes. Smell is of citrusy grapefruit, earthy, floral notes, caramel, light cocoa, and dark rye bread with a touch of black pepper. Taste is a mix of the aromas that settles out with a sugary candy upfront and a citrusy grapefruit wave that splashes along the tongue like a wave of ingredients that are meant as a base for an orange/grapefruit muffin with poppyseed & rye that’s been drizzled with melted baker’s chocolate. Mouthfeel is bittersweet, medium bodied, nice carbonation with a mild graininess and light astringency that takes a back seat to the cocoa powder flavor from the chocolate malt. The beer is obviously dry, as expected, from a rye beer

Handle bottled sample from the Brewer via weeare138. Ratebeer rating # 2,400. Poured a dark brown color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of roast, light chocolate, rye, and some dark fruits. Tastes of chocolate, roast, citrus, and rye. Had a grapefruit / coffee bitter finish.

Poured a brownish copper color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, some cocoa, buttery malts, with nuts, and tons of amarillo hops. Taste of cocoa, with some light tobacco, citrus fruits, caramel malts, and finishing with grapefruit, and light alcohol.

Cask pint at American Flatbread, Burlington. Very dark, opaque purple-brown color with hints of yeast clouds showing through, touch of lasting head.....nose is quite spicy-fruity, currants and carroway, touches of citric hops, faint hints of alcohol.....body is smooth and quite tart throughout, a bit grapy with lots of caramelized malt, peppery and bitter to finish and a bit tarry/burnt....the very finish is really quite harsh and hard/mineralic though it does calm down just a bit by the finish. I’m calling this an "ale" because I just can’t place it into a category; not hoppy enough to be an American Pale or IPA, not alcoholic enough to qualify as a strong ale; closest thing I can think of is the Burgerbrau Wolnzacher Roggenbier though it is not as rough, yeasty or distinctive as that masterwork. Still, another fascinating attempt from this most experimental of VT brewers.
