Reddish brown color with a thick creamy tan head. Aroma of caramel malt and hops. The flavor is the same with minerals (again) added. The body is light to medium with medium carbonation. Decent.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Apple fruitiness surfaces atop the sublime head and lingering, decorative lacing. Some maltiness is present, but too shy to really be noticed.
Roasted malt and wooden hop resins segue into comfortable bitterness. Dirty water again frightens the tastebuds, detracting from the ample caramel maltiness and fragrant citrusy hoppiness. Too bad, this could have been a lot nicer.
Reaching the summit to only see fog.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Coyote Cafe...
Appears a dark brown with a 2 finger creamy white head and decent spotty lacing.
Smell is sweet and of creamy caramel, toffee, and vanilla mixed with toasty malt.
Taste is creamy smooth vanilla, caramel, and chocolate all swirled with a hoppiness that cuts in at the end.
Mouthfeel is super smooth and creamy with a great overall feel. Nice sweet and hoppy finish.

Verre de dégustation de 4 oz au restaurant. Arôme: Odeur d’épices et d’houblons. Apparence: Couleur brune voilée. Mince col mousseux. 2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
UPDATED: DEC 15, 2005 Original Rating (6-3-7-3-13=3.2): Sampled Summer 2003 - Some pine-like hops in the nose. Dark copper-brown with decent, lasting, off-white head. Some butterscotch diacetyl, some dark malts and some resiny hops in the flavour with some alcohol noticeable at the end. Medium body. Sampled at the brewpub.
Rerate (4-5-3-2-6=2.0): Butterscotch overwhelms leafy green hops in the minerallic aroma. Clear dark mahogany brown coloured body with a very strong off white, fine bubbled head that lasts well and coats the glass. Butterscotch, lightly sour, mineralic flavour with fari bitterness. Medium light body with a somewhat watery texture and moderate carbonation. Can’t finish this one. Sampled on tap at the brewpub with beerbuzzmontreal, MartinT, muzzlehatch, Rastacouere and Yowie.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: MAY 30, 2013 On tap at Vermont Brewers Fest. 3 oz sample. The guy serving this told me it was a brown ale. Fruity, malty aroma with hints of berries...maybe blueberries? Smoke. Dark copper color that is slightly hazy with a small off-white head. Hints of berries to start with nice roasty malts in the middle. Odd cardboard taste to finish which leaves a poor final impression.(6/4/6/3/11)~~~~~~~RE-RATE~~~~~ ounce bottle purchased at The Rouses Point Beer Emporium. The aroma on this is pretty sweet and vinous with some pitted fruit notes. Seems a little more like a Scotch Ale than an Old Ale. Moderately hazy dark amber body with a medium off-white head present. Fair lacing, too. Starts a little sweet with hints of toffee, before this becomes just a little roasted in the middle. Finishes with light pitted fruits. Virtually no hops, low carbonation, thin-bodied Still seems more like a mediocre scotch ale than an old ale. Agree with my initial rating.

UPDATED: JUL 15, 2004 Lightly cloudy dark brown, this brew has an enticing leathery, cask woody aroma. I am a big fan of Old Ales and this certainly smelled like one. But damn, I had to taste it. Once again the sewery flavor and rusty overtones showed their face and ruined this beer. As per the rest of my Shed ratings, I firmly believe that their tap lines need a serious cleaning. There’s an excellent beer hiding under the rotting vegetable flavor.

UPDATED: DEC 27, 2004 Medium/dark, murky brown with a very rocky head that does go quickly. Has a sort of graham cracker taste with toasted malts and a slight alcohol warming feel.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
(Draft) Rich brown in color with a light tan head. Although it is supposed to have a high ABV, this is not apparent in its taste. Good balance of malt and hops with a slightly bitter finish. A good beer and one of my local favorites.
