An English-style strong ale. This brown ale has great malt depth and drinks like a session beer.

Pours a deep brown with reddish highlights when held to light and a huge fluffy off white head that persists forever. Smells of caramel and light chocolate with a hint of earthy hops. Not much of a nose on this one. The flavor follows the aroma quite well. Caramel, brown sugar, and a hint of chocolate with a touch of earth and mineral water. Medium to thin body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick and bubbly mouthfeel. Old ale is a real stretch for this brew, but at 7.4% I never noticed the abv. This drinks more like a brown ale but even at that its really bland. Nice to try, but I doubt I’d pick it up again.

Location: 12 oz bottle from State Line, 11/13/12

Aroma: The nose is fairly light, with some malty notes, caramel, and a bit of earth
Appearance: It pours an amber-brown color with a small, fizzy beige head
Flavor: The taste is lightly sweet, heavy malty, and a little bit bitter as well
Palate: The body of this beer is medium, it has a mediocre at best feel, and a lightly dry finish
Overall Impression: This one is not a great beer. It feels flawed, doesn’t drink that nicely, and just isn’t all that good...

12oz bottle from Julios. Pours a medium brown with a very thin white head. Typical flavor and characteristics of an english brown. Caramel and fruit flavors with a slight sourness. Nothing great here.

UPDATED: OCT 26, 2012 12oz bottle. Rating #56. Hazy, dark brown pour with a small light brown head. Mild aroma, just picking up a little caramel, but nothing much after that. Mild flavor as well, nothing wrong with it, but I’m not getting a lot of a brown ales characteristics. (2536)

Draft at pony. Pours a deep, deep amber with thin off white lacing. Aroma is sweet dark fruit and spice. Mouthfeel is medium to thin with notes of dark fruit. Nah. No thanks.

Single bottle from Julios. Pours out a deep brown color. Nice frothy head. Good carbonation. Aroma is very malty. Flavor is deep, rich and malty, with a bit of alcohol on the nose. Earthy notes. Better as it warms, of course.

12 ounce bottle from Nikki’s, Providence. Pours a hazy reddish brown color with a thin tan head. Below average head retention. Aroma of caramel, toffee and nutty notes. The taste is caramel malts, nutty notes, brown sugar, floral hops. Medium bodied. Very tasty. My first beer from these guys, and it’s a good one!

Roasted malt and brown sugar on the nose. Deep, murky copper color. Toasty caramel with fruity undertones. Chewy, adhesive feel. Usual American brown ale brewed up to the English ’old ale’ level of starch and booze. Just what is expected from Otter Creek.

A very good, unique beer. Pours a beautiful dark milky maroon with a thick head. Almost a cross between a stout and red ale. Very thick and creamy, with a little bit of oatmeal stout taste. Had on tap in Vermont. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
