3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Reviewed from notes. On tap at Great Lost Bear. Consumed November 20, 2011.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a dark brown color. Bar pour yields no head.
The smell had the normal peaty/ malty sweets to it with a slight rustic/earthy edge to it.
The taste was basically the same.
On the palate, it sat about a light on the body. I was able to have a couple of these. The carbonation was really light.
Overall, is there such thing as a session Scottish ale? Because apparently, Sheepscot Valley Brewing Company just pulled it off. This actually went decently with my bacon cheeseburger.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Cohill’s Inn. This is an easy drinking Scottish ale with the focus on the malt side and an medium body. Carbonation was a bit low but it was the end of the keg. I enjoyed it.

1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
From a growler bought at RSVP liquors in Portland, Maine. I was told I should try this by a Maine statesmen that also happens to be a former coworker and current friend. He didn’t say it was great, but I had hoped it might be better than this. Stale, wet cardboard, metal, sour and salty malts. Kinda gross and a big drainpour. I mean a whole growler.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
22oz bottle pours a transparent, ruby amber with a thin white head. Nose is non existent, light malt, lightly earthy but basically nothing. Flavor is lightly malty and basically nothing else. Medium bodied and dry. Not offensive but there’s just nothing there.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Serving: Draft from the Great Lost Bear
It pours a deep amber color with a small, dense, white head. The nose has lots of malt and butter, but not much else. The first thing I notice in the taste are the phenols. Notes of caramel malt and stale walnuts come along later. A slight soapy, fermented raisin note and some peat comes along as well. Certainly not the best mix of flavors. The mouthfeel is watery with low carbonation and short finish. Overall a pretty poor effort for a Scottish ale.
