badbeer (432), Iowa, USA Apr 7, 2008 Dark brown with a beige head and decent retention. Chocolate, ashy, and roasty aroma. Taste was a little metallic, had some chocolate and bready notes, somewhat similar to chocolate glazing. High carbonation and light body. Decent beer, but I couldn’t have too much of it. tompete (72), Burlington, Iowa, USA Apr 5, 2008 Chocolate and malt. Really like drinking a doughnut. Well named. Thanks to pepsican for sharing this with me. StFun (535), Indiana, USA Apr 2, 2008 HUGE thanks to kmweaver for hooking me up with this for my girls B-Day! Yes this beer is a novelty beer, but it managers to also be really really GOOD! Nice and oily, a really sweet chocolate aroma. Taste is lots of roasts and malt and of course, chocolate donuts. I was really impressed with how close they came to making this taste like an actual chocolate donut! Nice and sweet and delicious. Thanks again, I owe you big time! hopdog (5525), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 21, 2008 12oz bottle acquired in trades with kmweaver adn badbeer (thanks!). Poured a dark brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate donuts (is the donut really there or is it in my mind!) with some roast, and light caramel. Tastes of chocolate donuts, some caramel, light brown sugar sweetness, and roast. Reading some of the other ratings, I’m glad mine wasn’t sour! This one was different and I enjoyed it! skibumdc (6), Alexandria, Virginia, USA does not count Mar 11, 2008 I was @ Shenadoah Brewing Company for my birthday party to brew 2 beers and they had this on top. IMPROPERLY POURED. They used straight CO2 instead of "beergas" nitrogen/co2 mix. Thus no head.
Definite chocolate aroma, and taste. Almsot a cakey taste as well.
Very good beer, but just too much cake flavor for me. I was impressed they could brew it.
Novelty beeresque. Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Mar 7, 2008 Thanks to Ken for the bottle! Poured medium-deeper brown with a short, looser cap of tan head. The aroma (and eventually the flavor) were rather sour, with less-pronounced sweeter chocolate and confectioner’s sugar.. too many lactic notes that probably shouldn’t have been there. The flavor was another step downhill, with tart and sour notes from the beginning through the finish.. sweeter chocolates, glazed chocolate donuts, and a pinch of vanilla gave the base sweetness.. odd sour lactic and cocoa notes on the finish. Medium-bodied with huge, creamy carbonation on the palate.. unfortunately it seemed infected, and it’s a recent bottling. scraff (1920), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Mar 1, 2008 Dark brown, creamy light tan head. Faint chocolate cake nose with just a touch of caramel. Tangy lactic cocoa flavors round with a light fruity bitterness. Light bodied and thin, medium carbonation, soft chocolate finish. On draft many years ago, this was really nice. Bottle version here is quite the disappointment though. Either way, thanks for sharing kmweaver! Odeed (1666), Bakersfield, California, USA Feb 29, 2008 (bottle from kmweaver.)reddish brown body with a thick off white head.as the head sits i get some lacing on the glass.the aroma is a mix of sherry, chocolate, and well....donuts.the flavor is much of the same.i also get cherries, brown sugar, and chocolate cake.slightly oxidized.overall a novel idea.
