Commercial Description:
What it's like: Silver Medal 1998 World Beer Championships. Gold Medal, 1998 National Brew-on-Premises Competition. Stony Man is brewed using traditional English techniques for stouts with oatmeal for smoothness and creaminess. The result is an easy-drinking stout that is a little less bitter than most stouts. Stony Man is a famous landmark along Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. Who it's for: Stony Man is popular with anyone who enjoys stouts. Because of its smoothness, it is also a good choice for introducing people to stouts and dark beers in general. The alcohol content by volume is 6 percent.

12oz bottle acquired in trade with kmweaver (thanks!). Tasted side by side with the Oaked version. Poured a dark brown color wtih a small sized off white head. Aromas of roast, chocolate, and vanilla. Tastes of roast, chocolate, and some nuts.

bottle from cobra, thanks! Not quite a black pour and a big light tan head. Aroma is very faint with some chocolate and toasted malt. Flavor is very similar to their choc donut stout. A bit tart, reminds me of a very rich brown beer. some chocolate and some nuances of nuts come through. not great, but I think a tad underrated in my opinion.

Poured a dark mahogany color with a small, light tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, vanilla, cocoa, and light smoke. Taste was roasty, a bit of chocolate, and smoke, with light vanilla bean. Not quite as creamy as the Oak Barrel Stout...

Thanks to hopdog. Pours a deep brown with amber notes and a very small bubbly off white head. Aroma of light chocolate, caramel, toffee and some nuts. Flavor of roasted malt, earthy, caramel and some nuts.

12oz bottle. Pours a very dark, cola-brown color; light tan head with solid retention and medium-bubbled lacing. Light aroma, with roasted malts and dark chocolate upfront; a touch of oily smokiness, perhaps. Medium mouthfeel: average carbonation; not watery, but certainly light-bodied stout: roasted malts and dark chocolate; a touch of char and caramel; not bad at all, really, and perhaps suggestive that recent batches have gotten better. A very drinkable, reasonably tasty stout. Medium finish, showing roasted malts, bread, and some doughy / toastiness.
