COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Special - JDW Autumn 2012 Beer Festival
Dzuljeta Armoniene has travelled to Shepherd Neame Brewery, in Kent, to collaborate in re-creating this beer especially for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival. This red-coloured beer has an aroma which strikes a good balance of caramel, malt and hops, while the flavour is full bodied, with notes of toast, malt and sweetness, balanced by a subtle, low-hop bitterness. Hops used: Magnum

Oct, 2012. JDW, Portsmouth. Sweetish with some crystal malt notes and a lingering bitterness. OK, but a bit too much like an average Autumn ale.

Ottima rossa asciutta gradevole. Schiuma delicata e poco presente. Si beve bene e non stanca.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms, Bristol, November 2012. Deep copper in colour with a tight, off-white head. Sweet, berry fruits, powdered chocolate and toffee, leading to a yeasty, bitter finish. Ok.

Knights Templar, Chancery Lane 1 Nov 12. JDW Festivaløl. Mørk gylden. Lavt skum. Lite aroma. Smaken treaktig. Selje. Syrlig bitterhet etter hvert. Under pari.

Complex ale with a sweet malt aroma and mixed malty roasts in a sweet tasting red tinted ale.

Tasted this in the Salt Cot, Saltcoats (JDW) in November 2012. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear copper red in colour with a thin white head. Very slight note of chewy caramel in the short nose. Thin but creamy mouthfeel and good lacing throughout. Mixed malt base leads to a maltloaf flavour laced with syrupy dates and soft creamy caramel really evident here. This reminds me of a strong version of Caley 80/? definte notes of Scottish export in this. Slight porickle of dusty hop resins present but short in intensity though. Finish is very malty with toffee/butterscotch sweetness coming through in the mouth. This is a really easy session ESB to drink but beware of the ABV though. Well recommended.

Cask handpull, The Felix (JDW), Nuneaton, 13/11/12. Soggy, pleasant, cake-like red-bronze affair speckled with lace. Berries, caramel, some red apple aroma. That dank aniseed and toffee hit again. OK but leaning too close to GK/Bateman’s territory and not worth the units.

From cask at Camperdown Place. Pours clear and golden deep amber with a small, creamy off white head. Aroma is roasted malty and light breadish. Sweet, caramelish, toasted and light fruity. Sweet malty and light breadish finish. A bit too sweet and simple for my liking.

One-third pint glass, cask at The Knights Templar. Bubbly, patchy surface. Amber coloured body, near-clear. Modest aroma of sweet malts. Caramel malts and burnt sugar in flavour. Sweet malty ending. Medium bodied. Very much on the sweet side (JDWs real-ale festival, London 01.11.2012).

Cask conditioned at the Ralph Fitz Randal (JDW), York. White head, amber body. Caramel, chocolate, hoppy. Sweet, with a dry finish.
