"Kentish Strong Ale".
First brewed in 1998 as a special @ 10.5% abv to celebrate Shepherd Neame’s tricentenary. A cask version at 4.5% was also released. Was made a pasteurised bottle regular at 6.5% under the name Celebration Ale. Relaunched in March 2005 as a bottle conditioned strong ale @ 6.5% simply as 1698.
Only local hops and malted barley and water drawn from our artesian well are used to brew 1698 Bottle Conditioned Kentish Strong Ale. Hops are added three times, hence it is "thrice hopped".

Bottled, 500 ml. Clear amber colour, small beige head, which leaves a thin film behind. Dried fruity nose. Fruity aroma with marmalade and caramel underpainted by hints of chocolate, mouthfeel is slick, somewhat sticky. Gently warming, mild earthy, nutty finish. Nice brew.

brilliant appearance of clear dark ornge to amber colour, one inch creamy yellowish off-white head; aroma of walnut, toffee and floral notes as well as hints of vanilla; taste is the same - very smooth, though there is a spicy aftertaste in it, which twist the whole experience; quite good beer!

Całkiem dobre piwo, w smaku i aromacie wyczuwalne ciemne owoce, dość wytrawne i degustacyjne, nieco zbyt wysycone, co trochę psuje deserowy charakter. Trochę bittera, trochę belgii, cakiem dobre piwo

Clear deep golden color with a off white head. Ok lacing. Looks ok. Toffee, herbal and fruity aroma with an ok intensity. Medium (+) body and an average carbonation. Tad sweet and a bit oily texture. Shepheard Neame fuity and herbal flavor together with some toffee. Quite plain decent English Strong Ale.
