"Kentish Strong Ale".
First brewed in 1998 as a special @ 10.5% abv to celebrate Shepherd Neame’s tricentenary. A cask version at 4.5% was also released. Was made a pasteurised bottle regular at 6.5% under the name Celebration Ale. Relaunched in March 2005 as a bottle conditioned strong ale @ 6.5% simply as 1698.
Only local hops and malted barley and water drawn from our artesian well are used to brew 1698 Bottle Conditioned Kentish Strong Ale. Hops are added three times, hence it is "thrice hopped".

Aromaty owocowe, cytrusowe, delikatne.

Bottle from sainsburys shared with McTapps. Thick and warming with a nice touch of alcohol, nuts and really ripe plums. Deep and full body making you feel Vetter within an instant. Finally a beer from faversham missing those crazy bitter endings. Sweet and string - wonderful.

Bottle from Sainsburys in Folkestone. Pours out in a deep dark amber-brown colour with low head and smooth body. Aroma of barley and cake. Taste of barley, light malt, rum raisins, prunes, woods and nuts. Hints of cake. Enjoyable.

Fairly dark orange in colour with a short lived head. Not much of an aroma to it at all. The beer seems to have quite a strength to it, you notice that right away. I think this was a strong truck load of hops!

Bottled, 500ml from Asda in Leamington Spa, Warks. Light copper with white head. Sweet fruitiness to the fore, thin malts with a toffee’d note, caramelised and damsons. Quick finish. It’s ok.

Bottle; brown, white head; taste sweet, with caramel malt, yeast, spice; something of a harsh finish which lets it down; a disappointment, but not a write off.

From the archives: Had this as a promo on 2005, and many bottles later on. Pleasant bitter, but not quite strong ale. Can be slightly watery sometimes.

Kobberfarvet med godt skum. Maltaroma med rosiner, noe brent og litt integrert alkohol. Fin balanse, med god sødme og varme. (Havnabakken, 22.05.14)

Bottle 500 ml at home, into a Guinness glass. ABV 6.5% Dark oranhe to light amber colour on the body, clear, with little activity in it. Two fingers of slighty off-white head, thick, with good retention, leaving light lacing on the glass. Aroma is malty, with dark fruits and a bit of sourness accompanying them, a bit of caramel. Taste follows the aroma, some malts with dark fruits being dominant, albeit with a sourness in there. Some nuts as well. Medium thin body, soft carbonation. Overall okay, I could do without the acidic notes.

Bottled 500ml. -Dark golden coloured, small off-white head, mild fruity nose (slightly acidic). Sweet malty, caramel and mild hoppy presence with notes of fruits and hops in the finish. No trace of alcohol. Had better had worse.
