COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
"Kentish Strong Ale".
First brewed in 1998 as a special @ 10.5% abv to celebrate Shepherd Neame’s tricentenary. A cask version at 4.5% was also released. Was made a pasteurised bottle regular at 6.5% under the name Celebration Ale. Relaunched in March 2005 as a bottle conditioned strong ale @ 6.5% simply as 1698.
Only local hops and malted barley and water drawn from our artesian well are used to brew 1698 Bottle Conditioned Kentish Strong Ale. Hops are added three times, hence it is "thrice hopped".

500ml Bottle from the brewery shop Aroma-Strong alcohol & wet coins Appearance-coper coloured beer with an off white head Taste-sweet and then bitter at the end. There is sort of a taste like the smell of damp. Overall- Its fine, not my first choice but its ok.

Bottle. Clear amber colour. Off-white head. Aroma is fruity and malty, moderate. Taste is butterscotch, caramel, malty, slightly bitter, weird lactic artificial sweetness. Slightly bitter ending with some citrus.

50cl bottle. Shame it’s a seethrough bottle. I love the brewery and this beer is very good :-) Had it at the brewery 18 months ago. Great tour

Appearance: Amber colour, medium carbonated off-white head, lacing. Aroma: Nutty, toffee, diacetyl, bread, honey, very English. Flavour: More bite than the bark, but also sweet and a bit sugary that is disturbing hops and malts, bit simple, jam, honey fruits. Mouthfeel: heavily carbonated. Total: Don’t dislike it, don’t like it as usual with Shepherd neame.

500ml bottle. Pours dark golden with with a medium size head. Aroma is a bit skunky, with some citrus hops and caramel malt. A bit spicy to start, even getting hints of ginger with a slightly spicy, hoppy finish.
