Launched 1958.
Bishops Finger takes its name from the finger-shaped signposts which pointed pilgrims on their way to the tomb of Thomas a Becket in Canterbury and was the first strong ale to be brewed by Shepherd Neame after malt rationing was eased in the late 1950s. It is one of the UK’s oldest bottled beers, brewed since 1958.
Bishops Finger holds EU Protected Geographical Indication, recognising its unique provenance. Uniquely, it is brewed to a charter which states it can only be brewed by the head brewer on a Friday and that it must be brewed using 100% natural ingredients, Kentish hops and barley, and the brewery’s own artesian mineral water.

30.6.2014. Red beer with little head. Aroma with wood, vanilla, some berries, sweet malts. Taste is quite stuffy, bitter, red berries, wood, lacks some taste still. A bit sour. Flat.

Amber with an off white head. Aroma of caramel, plums, cherries, some spices and nuts. Sweet and quite fruity with some bread crusts. A bitterness that’s a little harsh at the end at first but sits better as it warms.

Süsslich bitteres Amber mit fruchtigen Zügen. Etwas zu einfach, wenig Harmonie. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from SuperAlko in Tallinn (€ 2.25). Clear bronze. Light creamy head stays and laces. Nice and fruity on the nose, nuts, toffee, caramel, herbal hops. Taste similar. Quite sweet with mellow bitterness in the finish. Body medium, carbonation low, texture smooth and soft, finish fairly dry. Pretty good this is.

It was a long, long time ago that I last had one of these. 500ml bottle from Tesco. Short review at BYOB. Dark orange / brown, clear, small head. Aroma is malty, caramel. Body is medium, slightly foamy, low carbonation. Taste is bready malt, a little burnt toffee, light earthy bitterness.

Bottle from Tesco. Poured a clear dark reddish amber with a frothy white head and a few bubbles. The aroma is nutty, sweet malt, hops. The flavour is moderate bitter with a rich woody hop bitter palate and a dry lingering mineral finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.
