Launched 1958.
Bishops Finger takes its name from the finger-shaped signposts which pointed pilgrims on their way to the tomb of Thomas a Becket in Canterbury and was the first strong ale to be brewed by Shepherd Neame after malt rationing was eased in the late 1950s. It is one of the UK’s oldest bottled beers, brewed since 1958.
Bishops Finger holds EU Protected Geographical Indication, recognising its unique provenance. Uniquely, it is brewed to a charter which states it can only be brewed by the head brewer on a Friday and that it must be brewed using 100% natural ingredients, Kentish hops and barley, and the brewery’s own artesian mineral water.

Pours a thin head on a clear dark straw body. The aroma is dark plum and toffee. The taste is caramel, toffee sweet with a bit of bitter grain to finish. The texture is crisp and fizzy. It’s well balanced.

Copenhagen 23/6 2015. 50 cl bottle. Gift from my girlfriend. Pours copper brown with yellowish head. Settles as 0,5 cm thick layer of foam. Aroma is of caramel and a little sweet. Carbonation is subdued - but quite fizzy for an English beer. Taste is rather watery. Caramel sweetness accompagnied by mild bitterness. Subdued but nice aftertaste. Not terribly exciting but solid English brew.

Klarowne piwo o barwie herbaty z średnio obfitą pianą, która zdobi szkło i redukuje się do okręgu przy brzegu szkła. Aromat intensywny karmelowy z nutami przypiekanymi. W smaku również karmel z lekką owocowością. Goryczka przyjemna, ziołowa, średnia w stronę wysokiej. Ogólnie dość ciekawe piwo, gdzie nuty karmelowe i tostowe przeplatają się z dość konkretną ziołową goryczką, mi przypadło do gustu.

Smak på Annas ölprovning. Det var med denna öl som mitt öl intresse började. Men det lev ett ganska tråkigt återseende.
