COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle and can: Filtered.
Launched 1958.
Bishops Finger takes its name from the finger-shaped signposts which pointed pilgrims on their way to the tomb of Thomas a Becket in Canterbury and was the first strong ale to be brewed by Shepherd Neame after malt rationing was eased in the late 1950s. It is one of the UK’s oldest bottled beers, brewed since 1958.
Bishops Finger holds EU Protected Geographical Indication, recognising its unique provenance. Uniquely, it is brewed to a charter which states it can only be brewed by the head brewer on a Friday and that it must be brewed using 100% natural ingredients, Kentish hops and barley, and the brewery’s own artesian mineral water.

Bottle, 500 ml at home, poured into a Guinness pint. ABV 5.4% Beautiful chestnut brown colour on the body, crystal clear, with light activity in it, really shines in the glass. Two fingers of off-white head sitting on top, with good retention, leaving light lacing on the glass after it collapses, and a quite thick layer of foam on the beer’s surface. Aroma of lighlty roasted malts and chocolate, light alcohol, red grapes, floral hops. Taste of roasted malts, toffee, caramel, a little metallic on the finish. Quite bitter, floral hops, bitterness has a long duration. Medium thick body, average carbonation. Pretty good, I can’t believe I paid only 1.80 for this great beer.

Copper colour, thin white head, bitter flavours, not a bad drop at all. Don’t drink it too cold.

Fuerte. Se siente el lúpulo desde el primer momento. Y mucha hierva verde. Caramelo presente también. Una bitter para tener en cuenta.

A decent ESB. Pours clear dark brown with short lasting head. Nice aroma of toast, roast and bread. Moderate sweet, oily on texture, limited bitterness, sweet-bitter finish. Nice session beer.

Dark brown with a fine lacing head and aromas of dark malt and old wine. Rich dry body, with a firm earthy grassy bitterness. Caramel and a pleasant chewy woody note.
