Launched 1958.
Bishops Finger takes its name from the finger-shaped signposts which pointed pilgrims on their way to the tomb of Thomas a Becket in Canterbury and was the first strong ale to be brewed by Shepherd Neame after malt rationing was eased in the late 1950s. It is one of the UK’s oldest bottled beers, brewed since 1958.
Bishops Finger holds EU Protected Geographical Indication, recognising its unique provenance. Uniquely, it is brewed to a charter which states it can only be brewed by the head brewer on a Friday and that it must be brewed using 100% natural ingredients, Kentish hops and barley, and the brewery’s own artesian mineral water.

Pleasant aroma of flowers along with freshly baked butter biscuits. Clear, dark amber color, visually clear body, no signs of haziness. Small white head that reduces to a thin, but lasting white layer. Medium level of CO2 when poured, after stirring reduces to desired level. Medium bodied with dry aftertaste reminding of well baked side of a bread. Rich and malty in taste with hint of toffee, follows the nose. Medium-light bitterness reminding of herbs and dark tea, bitterness doesn’t stay for too long. Very pleasant and tasty bitter.

The aroma is not very strong and a bit hard to pinpoint; sweetish malts, fruits, herbs. Clear, dark copper orange, medium and unstable head. Light to medium bitterness, light sweetness, a little sourness, a little bit of spice; sounds nice but the overall impression is not great, a bit like wine that went a little bad. Medium body, almost flat, pleasantly bitter and not very pleasantly tart finish. I suppose I could get used to and maybe even like this beer, but that would take some training.

Pours clear amber with small white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, nuts, some diacetyl. Taste is a bit sweet with notes of toffee, bread crust, berries and apples. Medium biterness makes a nice balance. Low carbonation. Diacetyl nicely affects mouthfeel. Good ale.

Piwo o ładnej, herbacianej barwie z ładną, średnio-trwałą pianą. Aromat bogaty, słodkawy, karmelowy, owocowy, kwiatowy. W smaku karmelowe z wyraźną goryczką. Mimo sporego natężenia smaków i aromatów wysoce pijalne.
