Launched 1958.
Bishops Finger takes its name from the finger-shaped signposts which pointed pilgrims on their way to the tomb of Thomas a Becket in Canterbury and was the first strong ale to be brewed by Shepherd Neame after malt rationing was eased in the late 1950s. It is one of the UK’s oldest bottled beers, brewed since 1958.
Bishops Finger holds EU Protected Geographical Indication, recognising its unique provenance. Uniquely, it is brewed to a charter which states it can only be brewed by the head brewer on a Friday and that it must be brewed using 100% natural ingredients, Kentish hops and barley, and the brewery’s own artesian mineral water.

Clear ligy rubcy olor with brownish bubbly foam head, lacing to glass. Aroma is malty, barley with some light caramel. Nice bitter taste with some sweet sugary taste as well. Aftertaste is turning nice bitter. (Barnsley 201210)

Barwa miedziana, klarowność idealna. Piana średnia. W aromacie estry owocowe, trochę przypalonego karmelu i lekkie nuty przyprawowe. W smaku równiez obecny karmel głównie na wstępie. Jest też lekka owocowość. Finisz wytrawny z zaznaczoną ziołową goryczką.

Old rating. Bottle from Sergio’s in Louisville back in 2007. Amber with a nice craemy egg-shell colored head. Aromas of fruit, nut and lightly toasted malts present. Taste is sweet with a slight bitterness. Fairly soft and light but still OK. Slightly sweet finish that is dry. Not bad.

the aroma is malty and fruity with some hints of caramel and spices... the taste is caramel and fruity with notes of toffee, biscuit, citrus and resin... rough hoppy bitterness... the aftertaste is sweet, bitter and dry...

Fortunately this beer has retained much of its flavour and character over the years. Hot cross bun nose the leads to delivered promises of clean dry pepper notes and a silky yet austere body. Pretty good.

UPDATED: APR 25, 2015 Deep amber with frothy head and medium carbonation. Nice fruity nose with apricots, strawberry. Taste is initially weak but develops into yeast, malt, sweet cake and a medium bitter finish with metallic hint. Palate is full, smooth and silky.

Big fan of shepherd name as a go to supermarket beer and this is another decent offering pours dark amber with small head that leaves some lacing some berries and caramel with a nice finish kind of reminds me of an old ale nly less pronounced on the flavour.

Liking Odd sounding beers I thought I’d give this highly acclaimed ale a go. Unfortunately, I found a bad egg in my portfolio, just not me, but I will give it the respect of of Review.. The nose is a little malty, but overly soapy and perfumed. It does pour a fine looking Bitter though, a medium copper-ruby of good body with a small, soapy head. In the mouth it’s not too bad, pleasantly solid, well bodied, good form, but on my taste bud’s was a very dull, overly bitter, astringent mono tone malty character, flat and not very flavoursome, and an abrupt, meagre finish with some minor hop elements.

Bottle, 500ml. Clear dark orange with a frothy to minimal/creamy tan head. Roasted aroma with hints of berries, mud, carbonation. Medium to robust bodied with moderate carbonation. Moderately sweet with a stinging bitterness. Strong roasted and dark fruit character, with a heavy bitter and alcohol finish. Slightly metallic aftertaste. Rich and warming, but has some nasty undertones.

Dark amber, with a small cream coloured head. Medium body with low carb - just the right mouthfeel for an English bitter. Little aroma but there is some malt there. Tastes good - caramel malt, berries, slightly nutty and moderate bitterness. Nice balance, good beer.

Sweet caramel/toffee. Simple malt taste, which is actually beneficial. Quite straightforward bitter. Nothing fancy but works.
