Launched 1958.
Bishops Finger takes its name from the finger-shaped signposts which pointed pilgrims on their way to the tomb of Thomas a Becket in Canterbury and was the first strong ale to be brewed by Shepherd Neame after malt rationing was eased in the late 1950s. It is one of the UK’s oldest bottled beers, brewed since 1958.
Bishops Finger holds EU Protected Geographical Indication, recognising its unique provenance. Uniquely, it is brewed to a charter which states it can only be brewed by the head brewer on a Friday and that it must be brewed using 100% natural ingredients, Kentish hops and barley, and the brewery’s own artesian mineral water.

Nothing satisfies me like a Bishops finger...or ten! At least in a Sheapered Neame pub anyway.

Uma ale com sabor leve, agradável. Năo é muito encorpada, mas tem um sabor marcante! Muito boa!

I had my first Bishops Finger as an exchange student living in London, where I became very fond of it. Bishops Finger is a ruby-red to nut-brown color with a foamy, off-white head. It has a rich malty smell with fruity overtones, but the hop aroma is somewhat more dominant. It has the aroma and appearance of a very traditional British ale. To the ale drinker, the beauty of Bishops Finger is contained in its flavor. It is full-bodied with fruity overtones. There are nutty flavors and the taste edges toward chocolate malt, but is accompanied by a strong hop presence which adds a balancing bitterness. The finish is of smoked malt, which leads to a hoppy, slightly fruity aftertaste with a bittersweet finish. Each time I am lucky enough to enjoy a Bishops Finger, it brings back memories of Quinn’s Pub, in the Camden neighborhood of London, where I spent many nights enjoying this fine ale with my friends. It’s unfortunate that Bishops Finger is not currently imported to the United States.

UPDATED: FEB 5, 2003 Aroma is fantasically malty. Pours with a decent head and in a beautiful deep crimson colour. Great malt and fruity flavour that is not overy complex. Perfectly quaffable as part of a session. A masterpiece, made from water from a 300 year old well, Superb!

Recenzja 20 sierpnia 2011 Rewelacyjny zapach, w którym można wyczuć nuty żywiczne, waniliowe, owocowe, a nawet bananowe. W smaku dominuje goryczka, piwo jest mocno wytrawne, jednak goryczka jest na poziomie akceptowalnym. Poza chmielowym głównym uderzeniem w tle lekko przebijają się nuty owocowe i wanilia.
