A pale, golden, brilliantly bright, hoppy ale, brewed with 100% pale malt and the choicest East Kent Golding hops. This was a hugely popular ale in its day and has now risen Phoenix-like for the modern drinker to enjoy.
There is a legend at Shepherd Neame that Brilliant Ale was inspired by the vision of the bright early morning sun sending its golden shafts of light through the brewhouse window and onto the oak mash tun, inspiring the brewing team to brew a beer that echoed these hues. Historically this recipe was formulated with 100% pale malt and was bittered by the brewery’s signature East Kent Goldings hops, resulting in a golden, brilliantly bright, hoppy ale which has risen Phoenix-like from the ashes of time for the modern drinker to enjoy.

Bottle. Citrus, honeyish malt and esters in the aroma. Unfortunately the taste is a bit oxidised (cardboard), light bitter vs. dull sweet, with a somewhat bready aftertaste. Nothing special.

500 ml bottle. Clear golden colour, small white head. Sweetish malty aroma with fruity and grassy notes. The flavour is malty, with caramel notes, wood, citrus and a moderately bitter finish. OK.

Bottle. Golden, small to average and fully diminishing head. Light to moderate, malty and lightly sweetish aroma, some caramel - light toffee, light floral fruitiness, light grassy - herbal hoppyness. Body is light to medium, malty and lightly sweetish flavor, light caramel and toffee with light floral fruitiness, light herbal hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and dryish, light caramel and floral fruitiness with light - some grassy/herbal hoppyness. Golden ale with caramel and toffee - your quite typical Shepherd Neame. OK, but really nothing new. Not too sweet though.

Pours a pale straw blond colour with thick white lasting head. Aroma is biscuity malt, fresh grass, slight citrus and wood. Taste is fresh and clean, medium dry bitter but balanced nicely with sweetness rom the malt. Not as dank and musty as some of this style of beer can be. Nice slightly oily mouth feel and not over strong carbonation. Better than I was expecting!

A golden beer, a head is almost medium and blond. Aroma has biscuity malts, some wood, slightly musty. Taste has malts and some biscuits, citrusfruits, wooden hoppyness that is strong enough. Medium bodied, nice carbonation, nice to drink. Overally too musty, I expect freshness and lightness from the golden ale, both of them are missing from this beer.
