There’s a spicy signature to this incredibly complex cockle-warming winter ale. The nose is reminiscent of raisins, dates and molasses while the palate is vinous with tannin-like notes of leather, vanilla, apricots and a hint of rustic Armagnac on the finish. An awesome after-dinner drop.

Bottle from Systemet. Nice body and head. Aroma with raisins and christmas fruits. Nice bitterness but the high alcohol content shines through with chemical sweetness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

One of the better S.N. offerings unlike their Cherry Brandy Christmas Ale of some years back. Pours with a rocky head, big aroma of fruit & berries. The alcohol is well hidden, fruit pastels, pear drops with a fruity hop balance, yep, fruit & more fruit lacking the usual heavy hopping and astringency I find in other S.N. beers. This is surprisingly decent.

500ml bottle. Pours a clear copper colour with a beige head. Smells undoubtably like a British ale. Fruity, caramel heavy malt notes, and light pink bubblegum. The taste is caramel / sponge toffee / corn syrupy notes up front, big hard water notes, and lots of mineral heavy hopping in the bitter finish. It’s not terribly successful as a beer, but it does succeed in making me want a pint of the much better London Pride.

Bottle from Tescos. Light caramel brown, high carbonation & little white head. Smells of toffee apple, sweet buns with a hint of cardboard. After an initial nothing-y alcoholic taste, the sweetness hits, followed by a bitter finish and aftertaste. Doesn’t hang together all that well, but it’s a reasonable Christmas beer.

Almost a year old. Starts to develop winey characters, leaning towards a barley wine. Alcohol more spicy than sweet.

Aroma has strong likeness to raisin bread with a strong dried fruit note and a cakey breadiness backed by a hint of spice. Flavour adds a hint of bitterness and a gentle sweetness. A good beer if not an amazing one.
