There’s a spicy signature to this incredibly complex cockle-warming winter ale. The nose is reminiscent of raisins, dates and molasses while the palate is vinous with tannin-like notes of leather, vanilla, apricots and a hint of rustic Armagnac on the finish. An awesome after-dinner drop.

Bottle from Eltham Wines, Eltham. Dark amber pour with a white head. Orchard fruit, dates, toffee, marzipan and sultana in the aroma. Flavours of figs, dates, sultanas and pear drops. Dry-sweet action. Not bad.

500ml . In a snifter. Well now if somebody gave me this for Christmas I’d take that as a large Xmas slice of "fuck u" , no really thanks do you hate me ? This stuff was garbage, as customary feature of all Shepherd neame beers. The 7% boost wasn’t warming , very little spice notes other than unbalanced spicy hops . Tasted too much like vanilla extract and burnt nutty malts. I would argue that this beer warm and cask would probably be a better experience than a stale bottle.

Bottle, 10c. Bright amber with an ecru head that laces well. Aroma is fruity, dusty and leathery, with dried fruit and sherry-like oxidation, chestnuts (is there such a a thing as chestnut marzipan?). Not overly sweet with moderate bitterness. Medium bodied, lowish carbonation. Dried fruit (dates, apricots, sultanas) medium sherry, vanilla, white pepper, herbal notes. Fairly dry and moderately bitter at the end. Good beer, although 500ml is enough to share.

Bottle from The Spotted Cow 151015. Bit early for Christmas beer but this is well worth it.Loaded with spiced fruit flavours and just a hint of rum this beer is better suited to colder weather but it goes down well in warmer weather also.

Poured from the bottle purchased in Croatia into a regular glass to drink. The beer had a copper-orange color with a modest foamy white head, with modest retention, and lighter cling and lacing. The aroma featured floral and pine hops along with a strong malty presence and touches of fig, barley, raisins, and alcohol. The beer had a sweet floral and fruity malt taste along with some sour earthy and floral notes and a bit of yeast. It had a wet and watery body with light to average carbonation and a slight presence of alcohol.

Bottle. Dark amber with a thin head. Strong, full bodied with a lightly spiced winter fruitiness. Has some sugar in here too, certainly noticeable in its nose.
