COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Filtered.
There’s a spicy signature to this incredibly complex cockle-warming winter ale. The nose is reminiscent of raisins, dates and molasses while the palate is vinous with tannin-like notes of leather, vanilla, apricots and a hint of rustic Armagnac on the finish. An awesome after-dinner drop.

Bottle from the LCBO. Bright and clear reddish-copper with a small creamy white head. Mellow aroma of toffee, barley candy and subdued orange peel hops. Medium bodied, pleasant on the palate. Flavour follows the aroma - decent balance of caramel malt and orange peel, with a suggestion of ground ginger in the finish. A nice enough beer, but a bit plain for a Christmas ale, and nowhere near as complex as the commercial description claims.

Bottle. Poured a deep, clear ruby, with a dense off white head. Aroma of spice, dark malt and SN yeast (cream soda). Flavours were cooked apples, molasses and rye bread. Finish was fairly sweet, burnt sugar, cinnamon and some light roasted malt.

Bottle, thanks to Heidi & Senthil. Dark amber pour with a meek off white head. Nose was toffee, wood and a little spice. The flavour unfolded with some sweet malts, christmas cake, more spice and a little booze. Some bitterness developed towards the finish. Ok if a tad underwhelming.

500 ml bottle from Tesco. Poured into a 1/2 pint chalice. Red brown body with a tan head. Aroma of Christmas pot-pourri. Spiciness continues in the flavour, with clove mace allspice and dried fruit flavours, but in thankfully restrained quantities. Thin bodied for ABV, quite a dry finish.

(bottle - 500 ml) Clear amber with white head. Light sweet and spice aroma. Very mild though. Dry spice flavor at the start with very light hints of fruit and then a bitter and very dry spice finish. A bit too mild and bitter.

Nose is spice, clove, slight dates, raisin, brown sugar; appealing. Taste is spice, cloves, marzipan, slight tannin. Some caramel and gentle nut in the backbone. Mouthfeel is terrible, much too thin. It’s better than I was anticipating, but pales into comparison with many of the Belgian festive beers. Would be interested in trying it on cask.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Clear amber beer with a small bubbly head. Aroma is malts, wood, hops. Sweet malty flavour has caramel, spices, dried fruits. Easy to drink.

Boutip (4636) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 9, 2014
Bottle: Poured a bright copper color ale with a relatively large foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of fruity ester with candy like notes with light caramelized malt notes. Taste is also dominated by some very nice candy like ester with some refreshing fruity notes and some medium caramel malt notes. Body is light with good carbonation. Nothing extreme in this beer but well balance with nice work around the ester.

Bottle Dec 2013 - Orangey Amber in colour. Very Fruity; dried fruits, raisins, oranges, hint of nuts. Malty; bready malts, caramel. Hoppy; grassy and spicy hops. Lightly spiced. Warming alcohol towards the finish. Slightly vinous. Sweet fruity malty throughout, leading to a dry hoppy finish. OK. Very drinkable.

500ml bottle. Poured a crystal clear medium amber with a thin frothy white head. The aroma is malt sweet hop. The flavour is medium to weak bitter with a fruity slightly metallic hop palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
