There’s a spicy signature to this incredibly complex cockle-warming winter ale. The nose is reminiscent of raisins, dates and molasses while the palate is vinous with tannin-like notes of leather, vanilla, apricots and a hint of rustic Armagnac on the finish. An awesome after-dinner drop.

500ml bottle poured into chalice glass on New Year 2013. Copper red in colour with a thick white foam head. Aroma not as strong as anticipated, slight note of sweet toffee and little else. Resiny mouthfeel and poor lacing. Pale malts gives a maltloaf base with slight toffee, barley sugar and candied fruit. Strong dusty Shepherd Neame signature from the hop resins. Finish has a fiery malt edge with sweet orange fruit evident. Tastes weaker than the gravity suggests.

Last of the Christmas beers my brother bought for me - thanks Rob. Looks like a strong English ale should - clear, dark amber with a dash of white head. Medium body and just carbonated enough. Smells like a good dark Christmas cake. Plenty in the flavour - sultanas, prunes, molasses, slight pepper and some dried apricot.

Bottle 0,50L. Clear amber color without any visible carbonation and small, long lasting, creamy, light brown head. Aroma of dried fruits and caramel with a touch of cinnamon. Taste starts light to medium sweet with caramel and almond, but at the end it gets bitter with a touch of ginger. Medium to full body, oily texture and soft carbonation. It warms up a little...

Botella.

500ml bottle [thanx-mas bartlebier for this one!]. Clear amber colour with average, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Malty aroma with hints of dried fruit, dried apricot, raisin, a woody touch, some vanilla. Taste is mellow malty, dry hints of leather, a tannic and woody touch, cautious hints of vanilla, a touch of fresh and dried apricot, raisin; (non-alcoholic, non-biting) cognac notes in the finish. Quite complex, but the flavours remain in a state of intimation.

Color whisky, clara. Escasa espuma. Aroma a barrica y licor, madera y pera. dulce y agradable. En boca entra muy bien, pero le falta cuerpo. Confirma los aromas en el sabor, en un tono general dulce y licórico bastante agradable. Final mas amargo.
