Unusual for me to be in under 4% territory, but I bought a couple of bottles on my last trip to Lidl, so 500ml bottle at home poured into a pint sleeve. Really looks the part, black with a mighty, persistent, creamy beige head. Vegetal farmyard aroma. Bitter chocolate burnt toast, hint of treacle toffee. Palate-wise, it’s a bit thin and gassy, but overall, better than expected.

500ml clear bottle, filtered. 99p from Home Bargains. 3.8%. Double Stout. Woody. Nice texture for 3.8%. Holds up well against Guinness - indeed, I like it more. Has more roasty flavours. A very pleasant dark, roasty beer.

A dark cola brown coloured beer with a weak latte coloured head. A very light aroma, dark roasted malt elements, coffee, nutty and dark chocolate, plus a background fruitiness. A dry mouthfeel. A dry, roasted malt taste, espresso coffee, dark chocolate and nutty. There is a slightly sweeter fruity flavour in the background. This does temper the dryness into the finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A dark, black-brown coloured beer with a frothy but thick beige head. A light, roasted malt aroma, with a background of fruity hops. Fizzy, medium mouthfeel. The taste follows on from the aroma, a mildly sweet, roasted malt flavour, with hints of chocolate and dark caramel, is soon taken over by a bitter, pithy citrus fruit, hop flavour, that lasts through to a thin, weak finish.

Tiefschwarzes Bier mit schöner bräunlichen Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr röstmalzig, Kaffee, Schokolade. Geschmack röstmalzig trocken nach Kaffee, leicht würzig und herb.

Bottle. Almost black beer with small beige head. Aroma of chocolate. Taste is bitter and dry roasted hops and chocolate. Light bodied for a stout. Not bad for 99p.

Appearance: Dark brown/black with finger thick ivory tan head. Aroma: Caramel, toffee, chocolate, coffee note, roast malts, smokiness. Taste: Medium bitter and sourness with low/medium sweetness. Palate: THick coarse texture, light body, average carbonation, lingering dry bitter, sour malty, cold coffee finish. Comments: Very tasty and easy to drink session beer.

Bottle from local supermarket. Poured almost pitch black with a large tan head. Aroma of liquorice, blackjack sweets and some dark malt. Oily mouthfeel, but not that creamy or full. Some coffee and earth in the initial flavour, but turned too sweet and chocolately in the palate.

Cheap and cheerful from Lidl. Must be the run down before the release of the new bottle. Dark, medium bodied, some nutty flavours, with more coffee and hint of molasses. Not bad. Not brilliant, but not bad.
