A classic stout combining the flavours and characteristics of three coloured malts and additional roasted barley. Generously bittered with choicest East Kent hops.

Bottle from Lidl. Pours a complete black colour with a thin tan head. Roasted malt and chocolate in the aroma, the taste again has roasted malt, but also some coffee with a dry bitter finish.

50 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 24.03.2011
Aroma has some nice smoke, coffee and roasted malt. Flavour has some coffee, roasted malt and hints of chocolate. Basic, but kind of good stout for this ABV.

50cl bottle from Lidl. Pours the colour of used engine oil with a loose coffee coloured head; the aroma has coffee masking some leafy hops; the taste is sweet and fruity with some dry, deeply roasted, grains adding bitterness and balance; the aftertaste has some damp coffee grounds. A rather good stout.

Bottle, from Aldi. Jet black, big fluffy but ultimately shortlived beige head and gentle condition. Sweet coffee, chocolate and roasted barley in the nose with some background blackberry fruitiness, full flavoured but quite dry in the mouth with a roasted barley bitterness and bitter coffee bean dominant, some liquorice notes emerging with time but bitterness and chalky roasted barley return to dominate the finish.

Bottle from a Finnish supermarket. 2 days ago (as was Postiljon and the ratings I’ll be entering now). Black body, creamy tan head. Crappy roasty nose, notes of alcohol, really strange for the ABV. Smooth malty taste, slightly roasty, very light... something, lemon maybe. Vague notes of orange (what’s with the agrumes in this rating?) Not bad but I expected a bit more.

0.5 l bottle, thanks hanniku! Almost opaque black color. The aromas of coffee, chocolate, dark fruits and dark caramel. Dry coffeish, chocolatey and minerally taste with burnt sugar. Good stout, feels stronger than it is.
