This magnificent example of a classic double stout delivers a velvety-smooth palate of dry, burnt flavours - complemented by roast, cocoa and coffee notes. Black, creamy and delicious; it is a Shepherd Neame masterpiece.

26.6.2014. Chocolate aroma with roasted malts. Taste has some british bitter style along with roasted malts and slight chocolate. Why it says double stout? Itís rather light and not a porter of my taste in general.

More to do with the style than the brewery. Just a bit burnt for me. Needs some oats and a bit more hop to make it interesting.

Really nice stoud pours well with a nice head and plenty of foam malt biscuit taste with a nice alcohol content running through it will look out for it on cask.

Roast and coffee notes are the predominate features of this stout although the aroma is not as pronounced. Fairly dry, medium bodied, thick head. Burnt flavors do not have a wood backing and leaves some bitterness. Itís good, but not the best here.

500ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours black with a thick beige head. Aromas are roasted coffee, chocolate, woody notes, tar, liquorice. Taste is creamy, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, coffee. Full bodied, roasted finish. If only all Shepherd Neame beers were as good as this one.

Pours dark with small beige head with some retention and some lacing. Aroma is on the sweet side: milked coffee, sweet chocolate, toffee and definately a roasted note. Very pleasant and stylish. Taste is sweet up-front with long very enjoyable roasted bitter ending lasting in the aftertaste. Smooth but with some carbonation that results in dry finish on the tongue. Overall, a nice surprise - a quite a nice and well balanced Stout.
