This magnificent example of a classic double stout delivers a velvety-smooth palate of dry, burnt flavours - complemented by roast, cocoa and coffee notes. Black, creamy and delicious; it is a Shepherd Neame masterpiece.

Bottle 0,5 l, ASDA, Bournemouth, England, UK. Czarne piwo o grubej, puszystej, sztywnej i trwałej pianie oraz przyjemnym, czekoladowym aromacie. W smaku gęste i wytrawne, palone z goryczkowym finiszem.

A decent stout. I heard that in Germany you can buy it in Tesco. I wish we had beers like that in polish markets.

In short: smooth coffee beer. Aroma is light and malty, pours black with creamy foam, taste is to roasted coffee/cocoa, palate is watered down and bitter.

Pitch black, small tan fast disappearing head. Weak vanilla aroma. Taste of cocoa of epic proportions! Cocoa bomb, with a nice hint of coffee. Medium to heavy bitterness. Thin body, soft carbonation. Texture is creamy and watery. Long cocoa bitter finish. This is like chocolate with 85% of cocoa among beers. Too bad for its thinness.

Bottle @ Biskopen, Bergen. Pours a near-black deep brown body with a medium creamy light beige head. Nose is licorice, red fruits, mild leather notes, black currants, hints of dark chocolate. Taste is burnt toast, bready malts, nuts, hints of biscuits, grains and coffee. Medium body, medium to soft carbonation. Quite nice and straightforward stout in the British tradition.

bottle from superbrugsen enghavevej. pitch dark, smooth brown head. malty aroma, some roasted malts, also an almost sourish note, that probably is from just a lot of malts. very english, but also kind of nice aroma. flavor is chocolate, roasted malts, almost sour notes, not much hops, but a very dry stout. quite nice. Better than guinness.

Kauge (445) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - SEP 13, 2014
Bottle from Nõmme Comarket in Tallinn (€ 3,11) in Sept 2014. Pours black with some mahagony round the edges; head is very dense, tan, retains and laces well. It has a very good, roasty chocolate and cocoa aroma, a bit smoky, with some nice bitter hops as well. Tastes sugary sweet and chocolaty, roasty and bitter. Body’s quite light though still around medium, carbonation low, palate thick and a bit oily. Dry, roasty, slightly bitter finish. Overall a very decent sweet and dry one.
