This magnificent example of a classic double stout delivers a velvety-smooth palate of dry, burnt flavours - complemented by roast, cocoa and coffee notes. Black, creamy and delicious; it is a Shepherd Neame masterpiece.

UPDATED: NOV 18, 2015 [10/15] Bottle. dark brown with a beige head. Roasty and slightly smoky aroma with coffee and licorice. Smooth, low carbonation. Sweet with creamy coffee, molasses, roasted malt, ash, licorice. Dry, peppery and moderately bitter at the end. Flavours are just OK really but itís harmonious and slips down nicely. [3.4]

Sometimes when you buy another and look forward to drinking it itís a mistake and sometimes itís a sign that you rated it too low.

Aroma has tobacco, ash, coffee and licorice. Flavour has coffee, tobacco, licorice, ash. I like the dryness here Ė and this is not too high on toffee typical to English ales.

Pint bottle. Solid black body topped by a cream coloured head. Aromas of dark chocolate, cherry, coffee and raisins. Taste is cherry and raisins up front before a coffee bean and cocoa bitterness sweeps through. Long chocolatey but very dry finish with a fruity aftertaste. Good.

Bottle - dense dark with creamy beige head. Musty coffee - licorice aroma. Ting on tongue - dry smokey finish, stale coffee, chocolate tasting. Better aroma than taste and feel.
