This magnificent example of a classic double stout delivers a velvety-smooth palate of dry, burnt flavours - complemented by roast, cocoa and coffee notes. Black, creamy and delicious; it is a Shepherd Neame masterpiece.

Basic roasted stout, but easy. Good to start with. With a strong(ish) body. Not too dry. Mature taste with a hint of licorice, which is great.

White creamy head with thick black body. Soft carbonation, roasted malts, nice smooth bitter ashy finish. What I compare other stout’s to.

Bottle from Dan Murphy’s 081215. This beer is everything that a well brewed English stout should be- heavy and hearty with an impenetrable blackness with waves off vanilla, chocolate and burnt toffee coming off it.

Lovely aroma of milk chocolate and coffee, which gave a great impression. However, the taste is disappointly different. There is a strange citrusy feel to this stout (maybe not that strange as the brewer states that pale ale is added), but this combination does not work well for me. I couldn’t taste any significant notes of chocolate, coffee or much malt as the citrus feel is too overpowering. This is a shame, as the aroma was very promising.

It is a good stout. The carbonation is regular and the foam is strong and more white than the St-Peters cream stout. The taste is toasted coffee and bitter and the malt is present.

Shared bottle. Pours is dark with thick persistent creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, hazelnuts, chocolate, toast, cereal, light fruity, light plums. Taste is medium bitter, light sweet, cofee mouthfeel. Light body, thick texture, long coffee bitter finish. Aroma was very promising but I was quite dissapointed by pretty mild taste and very watery palate. Overaly good, but not my cup of tea.

Piwo bardzo ciemne, praktycznie czarne. Piana jasno beżowa, dość obfita, bardzo ładnie zdobi szkło. Aromat likierowy, przywodzi na myśl portery, wyczuwalna czekolada i kawa zbożowa. W smaku konkretna goryczka, gorzka czekolada, kakao i odrobina kawy, finish palony.

Clear dark brown/black, 2 finger brown creamy head, sticky lacing. Lots fo coffee and chocolate, medium roasted, bit ash, mocca. Light to medium body, roasted dry and bitter, soft carbonation, long roasted finish. Bit too dry roasted and bitter for my taste, lacks also nuances. Not bad but not more than ok either.

Pours very nice deep black colour. Very nice chocolate taste and caramel finish. Very decent beer!
