This magnificent example of a classic double stout delivers a velvety-smooth palate of dry, burnt flavours - complemented by roast, cocoa and coffee notes. Black, creamy and delicious; it is a Shepherd Neame masterpiece.

I was quite disappointed. Average quality, watery, although interesting taste. Could be stronger. It was quite a boring. What should you expect for bottle of beer, which claims to be "best" or "oldest" brewery on planet. Decent and drinkable, nothing more.

Clear dark ruby red, off-white foam head. Some mentol tones in aroma, does not smell like s stout, but surely taste like one. Bitter coffee tones, also in aftertaste. (Arnhem 201504)

bottle 500 mL. pour in mug. black pitch color with medium tanned head, aroma are roasted coffee malts, chocolate and caramel, very nice. its taste are coffee, chocolate, caramel, nuts with a low-moderate bitterness, very nice, although its abv is quite low for a stout, so "double stout" aint accurate, maybe a porter... very tasty beer anyway, a new top pick for me

500ml bottle served in a snifter glass. A: Pours a dark brown to black color forming a big and creamy beige head with excellent retention and lots of soapy and lingering lacings left in the glass. S: Intense roastiness. Strong notes of dark chocolate, coffee beans, roasted malts, roasted almonds, dry plums. Flowery hops and earthy hints. T: Slightly sweet upfront that becomes quickly, quite dry and bitter. Strong notes of dark chocolate, coffee beans, roasted malts, roasted almonds, dry plums and grassy hops. Intense and persistent bitterness: excellent! M: Light to medium body. Medium carbonation. Dark chocolate and grassy hops in the aftertaste. O: Excellent drinkability. Excellent British Stout. Review #2001!

50cl bottle 7 months from expiration. Aroma of of light coffee, milk chocolate, vanilla and smooth roastiness. Pours pitch black with thin espresso-like head. Taste of roastiness, earthy, coffee and bit creamy mouthfeel but dry. Bit of hop bitterness on the backbone. After taste is coffee with dark chocolate. Palate is smooth medium carbonation. First mouthfeel is more creamy and finishes pretty dry. Very nice beer and very drinkable.
