3.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500ml dark bottle from Morrisons. Attractive retro label for the current fashion of reviving old recipes - particularly IPA recipes. This is a spanking good beer. The malt is cleaner than one would expect from a retro recipe - but I think Sheps are using their marketing wisdom to simply put a spin on a modern beer. I have no doubt they consulted an old recipe, but they used modern ingredients, modern technology, and modern thinking to adjust the recipe. The malt is clean and toffee flavoured, the hops are brisk and tidy, and the yeast is non-existent. There’s no character here. There’s generous hops and malt, combined in a straight forward traditional manner that has been popular now for over ten years. So this both old fashioned and very modern. And tastes more modern than old fashioned. There’s not much of interest, and there’s certainly no character. But it’s a good, drinkable beer. And there’s nowt wrong with that.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Boa drinkability. Esperava um pouco mais.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at Mabel’s Tavern, Euston. Copper, clear with the tiniest bit of off-white head. The initially off-putting metallic and sulphurous aroma gives way to a kinder scent of brambles. Bitter taste with a suggestion of sweetness; the sulphur egginess still holds sway. Nicely carbonated. It’s ok.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle 0,5 liters. For an ipa quite tame hops. But suited the situation just right. Easy to drink, crisp and bitter, satisfactory.

3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
0.5 l bottle from Alko. Amber colour, small head. Taste has strongly malts, in the English way. Not just pale malts, but with some darker taste. Then there is hops giving some bitter palate. Basically a bitter, but with more alcohol. Yes, and with a bit more hops. Well, in a summary, this might be close the original IPA, but without the conditioning in a ship.

En klassisk engelsk ipa, ikke vanvittig meget humlesmag fra fuggles humlen men nok til at det vare ved i eftersmagen
