COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Filtered.
Hailing from the tradition of 18th Century IPAs, which relied on generous hopping to protect exports during arduous journeys, this modern incarnation retains the strength, body and strong hop character which is synonymous with this beer’s provenance.

A glorious showcase of the distinct, heavily hopped beers for which Shepherd Neame is famed, India Pale Ale delivers potent bitterness, offset with generous amounts of pale ale malt to deliver a balanced, yet uncompromising brew.

500ml dark bottle from Morrisons. Attractive retro label for the current fashion of reviving old recipes - particularly IPA recipes. This is a spanking good beer. The malt is cleaner than one would expect from a retro recipe - but I think Sheps are using their marketing wisdom to simply put a spin on a modern beer. I have no doubt they consulted an old recipe, but they used modern ingredients, modern technology, and modern thinking to adjust the recipe. The malt is clean and toffee flavoured, the hops are brisk and tidy, and the yeast is non-existent. There’s no character here. There’s generous hops and malt, combined in a straight forward traditional manner that has been popular now for over ten years. So this both old fashioned and very modern. And tastes more modern than old fashioned. There’s not much of interest, and there’s certainly no character. But it’s a good, drinkable beer. And there’s nowt wrong with that.

Clear amber body with small coppery tones, off white 2-3 finger head, rich lacing. Aroma; mild caramel malts, hops, dust, grass, straw. Taste; hops, caramel malts, orange peels, syrup notes, fine hoppy bitterness coming up and into the finish, malts change character to roasted. Feels well bodied, fresh, clean, normal carbonation. Overall a clean straightforward version of the style. [50cl brown btl, abv6.1%, B@Alko (Muonio-Kilpishalli) 4€, #L174, BBjun15, t@höme]

In bottiglia. Aroma di caramello dominante, terroso, poca pulizia negli aromi. Al palato corpo scorrevole, sentori di caramello e terroso su tutto. Non indimenticabile

StueyD (1233) - Heacham, Norfolk, ENGLAND - NOV 17, 2014
A copper coloured beer with a thick and frothy white head. a light, malt led aroma, hints of caramel and nuts, this is followed by pithy citrusy hop aroma that lingers. Dry mouthfeel. A dry caramel malt taste to start, then a mouth filling hop flavour, loads of pithy grapefruit and lemon, then a piney and grassy taste that adds an extra bitterness. The finish is lingering and pithy citrus hoppiness.
