COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Regular.
"A distinctive, mid-brown bitter ale, with all the hoppy aroma you’d expect of a beer brewed in the heart of the hop country. Well balanced, with a taste that’s been described as "wonderfully aggressive, tinged with sweetness". "

Cask @ The Horse & Groom. The pour’s chestnut brown with a tiny white head. The nose is light wood, some berry, hints of caramel and straw. The taste is more wood, red apple skin, bubblegum sweetness and hints of fruits. Solid malt presence, smooth dry finish. Very still and soft, low carbonation. Drinks well. Overall, one of the better sheps beers I’ve had. OK.

On tap in Kent. Nose and aroma seem to be honey. Taste a bit sweet but witha tough bitter ending. Not bad. But not a sensation.

Pint, dark amber colour, hazy, tiny tanned head. Aroma was Golding hops and some Maris Otter malt. Tasted malty and bitter, long charcol finish. Smooth, no real carbonation, thick texture for strength. Overall decent character for the low ABV, good session ale.

(cask in Brabourne Lees) amber with nice head. Biscuit malt aroma with some grassy hops. Flavor is biscuit malt, grassy hops. Nice cask mouthfeel.

Strong aroma of English hops followed by a hard, bitter flavour tailing off to a long equally bitter finish. A little thinner than Spitfire but still an excellent ale. Not one for beginners.

A decent real ale. Slightly bitter and fresh tasting with a grassy aroma. Light and watery with little to no head. Tried with the parents at the Rose and Crown Inn in Elham in 2012.

Cask at the Old Doctor Butlers Head in the City. This is a coppery brown beer with a decent white head. The ’wonderfully aggressive’ of the official blurb may be a bit ambitious, but this was a good light to medium bodied bitter with an earthy hop bite to it.

Cask handpull, The Freemason’s Arms, Covent Garden, 04/04/12. Clear ruby under a cream skim. Reasonably juicy red berry, bubblegum, wood resin aroma. Fuller than Early Bird with red berry, sherbet and aniseed. Bitter finish. Not getting much but bitterness, actually; again a vomit streak. Pretty dull.
