"A distinctive, mid-brown bitter ale, with all the hoppy aroma youíd expect of a beer brewed in the heart of the hop country. Well balanced, with a taste thatís been described as "wonderfully aggressive, tinged with sweetness". "

Appearance is clear and amber, a white frothy head of about half a finger, which lasts well. Aroma- malty, some hops, toffee and raisin hints. Taste- bitterness, definite hop presence, fruity hints, slight toffee, almost vinous in the background, thin mouthfeel. A reliable ale.

Cask at Connington hotel. Brown with slight head. Not much in aroma. Some caramel sweetness with mild bitter finish but mainly watery. Slightly acidic. Flat beer. Not very memorable.

(Cask, GBBF 2013): Clear copper in colour, medium head. Weak aroma of fruit, caramel, malt. However, taste is really well balanced. Malt, fruit, caramel, grass and slight hop notes come through. Not bad, a little on the flat side though.

Cask @ The Alma, Painters Forsdal, Kent. A clear, deep golden body with a fast disappearing off-white head. Rather mild in aroma mainly from light roasted caramel malt. Flavor is cask soft caramel malt, a bit fruity and moderate bitterness. Medium body and medium strength aftertaste. Totally OK session ale, but frankly rather straight forward.

Not bad. Not terrifically good either. What can only be described as a bog standard bitter. Not very bitter, nor complex. Inoffensive.

Cask @ The Horse & Groom. The pourís chestnut brown with a tiny white head. The nose is light wood, some berry, hints of caramel and straw. The taste is more wood, red apple skin, bubblegum sweetness and hints of fruits. Solid malt presence, smooth dry finish. Very still and soft, low carbonation. Drinks well. Overall, one of the better sheps beers Iíve had. OK.
